Recently during recent pak border firing, it was reported on an Indian News channel that pakistan is using UAVs to track indian positions and that was the reason, their firing was on India BSF posts.

Is this correct? Why cant we track Pakistani posts with our UAVs and fire with precision on their hardware and their posts? We have Space program. Are we not developed enough to track their border positioning and fire on their border posts with accuracy? Is there no coordination between Space Agencies getting intelligence and the BSF on the border when they reply to pak's ceasefire violations?

As long as paki UAV does not cross the loc, there is nothing much to complain. Only when they cross loc we have the fundamental right to shoot down because it is an act of aggression.

BSF unlike army does not operate UAV in large scale now their tactics and doctrine being upgraded ..

NAL mini UAVs demonstrated to CRPF & NSG

The CRPF and National Security Guard have expressed interest in NAL's SlyBird and Pushpak micro air vehicles for over-the-hill surveillance and intelligence gathering. Starting November 2013, Bangalore-based NAL has conducted flight demonstrations in simulated operational settings in Manesar to show the two agencies what the MAVs can do. NAL has received feedback on both the MAVs and will be engineering improvements, including to the autopilot guidance control laws. The NSG, CRPF, ITBP and state police forces have long expressed interest in acquiring a limited aerial surveillance capability with MAVs. The ITBP and Punjab Police have received demonstrations of NAL's Black Kite and SlyBird in Ladakh and Chandigarh respectively over the last few years. The 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) will see greater strides in the MAV space, including the entry into service of several of the systems under development. The Indian Army is still in the market to procure at least 200 mini-UAVs for its infantry units, for real-time surveillance and reconnaissance, detection of enemy movement, target detection, recognition, identification and acquisition and post-strike damage assessment, as earlier reported by SP's, though it has so far only acquired the indigenous Nishant UAV. Incidentally, NAL has spun off a version of the Nishant's NAL- DRDO 55 HP Wankel rotory engine for manned applications like powered hang gliders.

A joint team of ADE and National Aerospace
Laboratories (NAL) both at Bengaluru, led by
Shri BP Shashidhara, Sc G, conducted flight trials
of 2 kg class mini unmanned air vehicle (MUAV),
Imperial Eagle, during 4-5 September 2014
at Deolali. The objectives of the trials were to
demonstrate the capabilities of MUAV to the senior
command of the Indian Army.
The MUAV flew successfully in divergent
weather conditions under full autonomous control
thereby demonstrating its robust capabilities to fly
under harsh weather conditions. It demonstrated
its operational range and endurance by flying at an altitude of more than 300 m and
autonomously covering a range of around
7 km from the airfield in low cloudy conditions
capturing videos of interesting waypoints. Imperial
Eagle made a perfect landing after completing the
mission.
In another milestone ADE conducted
endurance flight of medium altitude long endurance
(MALE) unmanned air vehicle (UAV) Rustom 1
on 20 September 2014 at Kolar airfield.

I have seen it flying low over karmelaram church(in bangalore) once some time back. I think they are doing the flight test but news is not out.

Deal for high altitude UAVs likely

India and the U.S. are negotiating a deal for the purchase of high altitude, long endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). An agreement or announcement to this effect is likely when U.S. President Barack Obama visits India as the chief guest for the Republic Day ceremony next month, sources informed The Hindu. Though the variant and the numbers are not known, it has been learnt that the UAV in question is most likely the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk, a non-combat drone and the largest unmanned aircraft system built by the U.S. Global Hawk is a HALE Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) with extraordinary intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, providing near- real time, high resolution imagery of large geographical areas both during the day and night, in all types of weather. The Global Hawk has an endurance of over 24 hours and can operate at an altitude of 60,000 feet. The U.S. has extensively deployed it in Afghanistan and Iraq. It has further been upgraded as the MQ-4C Triton maritime surveillance platform for the U.S. Navy.
