BSF women personnel gun down Pakistani intruder in Punjab

Gurdaspur: Women officials of the Border Security of Force (BSF) reportedly shot dead an intruder allegedly of Pakistani origin on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, the intruder was trying to enter India through the Derababa outpost in the Gurdaspur sector. The Derababa outpost is guarded by women personnel of the 71st battalion of the BSF.

According to the BSF, the intruder cut the border fence when he noticed that women officials were guarding the post. He was reportedly shot dead by the women officials when he tried to attack them after being told to stop.

"Two women BSF personnel of 74 Battalion noticed the movement nearby barbed wire on the border and they challenged the intruder to surrender as he was illegally trying to sneak into the Indian territory from the Pakistan side," DIG, BSF, PS Bains said.

Mr Bains said that the BSF recovered a sim card belonging to a Pakistan mobile operator, but the intruder's identity was yet to be ascertained.

The incident took place in Gurdaspur district at around 1:30 pm on Sunday.

Generally all infantry soldiers from all countries come from the hinterland. Second or third generation army people are able to provide the resources to their children to join as officers. Just like in any other profession, one has to begin somewhere before they can write their own legends. Even Doval's father was an army officer, and Doval started as a Kerala cadre police officer.

There are women in other branches of the armed forces too, they have performed well wherever deployed in active warzones, including foreign posting in UN. They even got a good citation when posted in Africa.

There are other precedents as well, starting from Jhansi regiment in INA, LTTE, Mukti Bahini, and even Naxals have deployed women in infantry roles where they have performed well.

Training Russian troops :

One doesn't take military deployments lightly. Once a task is given to the military, they make sure that the requisite skills and training is imparted. We shouldn't use Israel and US as a benchmark for our problems. We should do what works for us.

Female soldiers in Eritrea played a large role in both the Eritrean civil war and the border dispute with Ethiopia, because they make up more than 30% of the Eritrean military.

Not during training. They are at 'original factory settings' Lol!

But otherwise as officers, a little touching up here and there is OK as long as it's not overdone or obtrusive.
