Walk The Talk with DRDO chief VK Saraswat

the above video gives you the confirmation of DRDO producing CL120FSApds Mark-II with penetration of 600mm with upto 500mm done

CL120FSApds Mark-I has penetration of 400mm RHA with 510 Mpa which i think is compatible

Probably, the triple-charge HEAT round also never entered service...

Yeah, Russians use only 3BK-29 and 3BK-29M, 3BK-31 was a new round, but there are no sources saying it went in to production.

Russia to deliver ammunition worth $1 bn to India

Russia to deliver ammunition worth $1 bn to India

IANS

Moscow: Russia will deliver ammunition, including tank and artillery shells, worth $1 billion to India, a media report said.

The Vedomosti daily found that one of the largest contracts in weapons trade for the last two years was a contract with India for the delivery of ammunition worth $1 billion dollars, reported ITAR-TASS news agency.

At the beginning of this year, Russia and India concluded a package of contracts to the tune of $1 billion dollars for the delivery of tanks and artillery shells, anti-tank missiles of various types and other ammunition for ground troops, a manager of an enterprise of the defence industry told the daily.

State-run Rosoboronexport Director General Anatoly Isaikin told the daily that in the beginning of the year they concluded new contracts for the delivery of weapons at the cost of about $5 billion.

A source noted that the contract with India is one of the largest export contracts.

Ruslan Pukhov, director of the Centre of Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, said the Indian army lacked several thousand anti-tank missiles of Russian types alone, and the available Indian capacities could not cover this deficit.

Along with Russia, India buys ammunition in European countries and Israel and concluded a massive contract for the supplies of anti-tank missiles at the cost of more than $1 billion with Israel last year, the expert said.

will there be any effort for india to manufacture the above indigenously ? depending on imports for such critical materials can prove fatal in tough situations

Kind of, there will be licensed production

The Hindu : News / International : Now, Russia to set up munitions shop in India
Russia will set up licensed production of tank and rocket artillery ammunitions in India, top arms trade officials said here.

"We are not only selling things, we are also setting up production facilities. Work has begun on establishing a joint venture in India to manufacture projectiles for Smerch multi-barrel mobile rocket launchers, " Viktor Komardin, deputy head of Rosoboronexport, state arms exporter, told reporters at the Machine-Building Technologies-2012 defence show near here on Friday.

Smerch (Tornado) fires 300-mm rockets powered by solid fuel engines to distances in the 20-90-km range. The rockets are 7.6 metres long and weigh 800 kg, including a 100-kg warhead. India has 42 Smerch launchers.

Advanced tank ammunitions

Another deputy head, Igor Sevastyanov, said Russia was nearing a deal with India on supply and manufacture of advanced tank ammunitions.

"We have completed the first round of negotiations on the delivery of 3UBK20 (Mango) tank projectiles and will open the second round on Monday for their licensed production in India."

Earlier this year, Russia signed $1 billion worth of contracts with India for supply of tank and artillery projectiles, anti-tank rockets and other ammunitions for land forces, business daily Vedomosti reported, citing defence industry sources.

3UBK20

The control system is semi-automatic, jamming invulnerable, by a laser beam.

The firing of 3UBK20 is performed with smoothbore gun 2A45 of systems 9K118 and D81 of tanks T-72C, T-80U, T-90C both in a stationary position and when moving. The temperature range during combat use is from +50°C to −50°C.

LAHAT (Laser Homing Attack or Laser Homing Anti-Tank)

A third generation semi-active laser homing low-weight anti-tank guided missile developed since 1992 and manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries
It has a range of 8 km when launched from a ground platform, and up to 13 km, when deployed from high elevation. The missile hits the target at an accuracy of 0.7 meter CEP and an angle of over 30 degrees, providing effective penetration of up to 800 mm of armor steel with its tandem warhead to deal with add-on reactive armor. LAHAT might also carry embedded active protection system countermeasure capabilities.

Re: Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT)

1. They said they already worked on 500..

2. Arjun present ammo have MV of 1650m/s & T-90S have 1700m/s..

Only Rheinmetall Air-defense is ban not entire Rheimetail..

3BM42..
Kunal, specifically which T-90 amm version are you talking about, afaik, there are several version of T-90 ammo manufactured by India and neither of them has velocity more than 1660m/sec:-

1) Hybrid Indo-russian ammo with russian penetrator and Indian propellant, destroyed en masse in 2003 due to quality issues (link)
2)Indian FSAPDS round (link) (Is this the slower ammo listed on OFB site ?)
3) An improved version of the above round (Mk2, seen on the left ) rejected in favour or the IMI round.

4) IMI designed round with imported penetrators (the fast Mk1 ammo listed on OFB site, and this link shows the israeli ammo in closeup on last page)
5) The latest batch for russian ammo which are being imported because the goddamn ofb could not learn to make penetrators.

Meanwhile the Mk2 round is being pitched again to the army (not sure if same specs or improved ones) and the improved Arjun round (T1A with 500mm penetration ? the current round does not have any designation, link)

Recently procurement of 3BM42 'Mango' in mass have velocity of 1700m/s, Other Indian Rounds used on T-90S are OFB manufactured..

OFB manufactured different Rounds for T-90S and T-72, The Round for T-72 were destroyed..

---------------------------------------------------

There are no mention of MK2 rounds, that is MK1 figure..

Problem with older two piece ammunition for 125mm smoothbore guns is that these older APFSDS rounds use so called ring sabot, such ring sabot as we can see is very short. So even if such ammunition is very fast (~1,700 m/s muzzle velocity), because of large stabilization fins, they also tend to very quickly lost their huge velocity, thus it is reducing their effectiveness against target at greater distance. AFAIK some newer Russian rounds do not have this problem.
