Rare old photo of "Special Group" of RAW!!
This was taken aftermath of Bluestar, u can see the destroyed gurdwara in the background!!
Some more rare photos of SG training at their base in Sarsawa, Uttar Pradesh, in 1984.

This is the classic confidence firing drill which is used to build mutual trust among the boys.

Notice that these guys are wearing ear pros! This is yet another proof that SG is the only unit in India which receives top-notch equipment.

These photos might have been posted earlier but they are worth re-posting. (Courtesy: Sandeep Unnithan for India Today)

51 SAG of the NSG has been conferred with the Chief of Army Staff Unit Appreciation by Gen M M Naravane.
Lo And Behold!

What we have here is a picture of a former SG operator standing with Army Chief! Notice that the man standing here is wearing a Mavericks dagger badge which is only worn by those who have served in SG:

Here is a picture for comparison:

This is almost an official confirmation of the existence of Special Group!

Fun Fact

Did you know that the first members of NSG were Special Group operators on deputation?

This is probably the reason why the uniform of NSG is
black; it was borrowed from Special Group!
NSG pic is never complete without a Para SF operator in it.

Even with bias people really need to think how vast the deployment of Para SF operators are.

Bahut hi inferiority complex chal raha hai iss thread pe logon mein. Nobody questioned Indian SFs combat prowess.
And I'm not advertising Indian SF combat prowess either. I am simply questioning these western SFs' claims of being "Namba 1 super dooper tier 1 SF" just because they do room interventions with HK 416s, any SWAT team in the world can do that. How many of these countries have engaged in combat with an equally capable opponent in the modern era? Zilch, nada, not one. NZ SAS claiming to be "the best" is particularly a sad joke.

First of all, Tier 1 or Tier 2 is not a measure of a unit's combat potential or ability to hold it together under fire. Pit a squad of USAF 24th STS combat controllers (Tier-1) against a team of 75th Rangers (Tier-2), the Rangers will pummel them every time in pretty much all physical and mental toughness trials.

The Tier structure is about the ROLE expected to be performed by said teams. Tier-1 are tip of the spear when it comes executing to a specific set of SF roles, and therefore any teams from NATO-allied countries that were also formed with the execution of those set of roles in mind, and cross-train with US Tier-1s, are regarded as Tier-1 by both JSOC and said countries' own military.

As of NZSAS claiming to be the "best"...well I challenge you to go and find the training/public relations videos created by ANY national military in the world where they DON'T claim to be the very best/among the very best in the world, and instead say things like "we're good, but not as good as X unit from X country". That goes directly against any military's ethos, especially when its not a strictly internal discussion.

Everyone's tier 1 until the targets start shooting back. Put these guys on the LOC without CAS and we'll see who's tier 1.
All the Indian Special Forces units have their own kill houses on their home bases. Albeit not all are concrete buildings. Some are mud houses to aid in customisation for mission specific room intervention drills.
