His native village is in Ahirwal region (Haryana, Rajasthan) which is historically known for producing warriors. Same area where the only few survivors of Battle of Rezangla 1962 currently lives.

Ahir C Coy 13 Kumaon which made it's last stand in Chushul rather to retreat and facing waves of Chinese "Human waves attack" until their post were overrun.

You will also find several Ptr from 1 Para who were part of Hajipr Battle. I personally feel that Ahirs (Yadavs) and Gujjar should have their own separate Regiment. They are such warlike and brave soldiers.

PS - Their native Rajas opposed the British and took part in revolt so British reduce their recruitment in Army and confiscated their Jagirs. Chutiya Saif Ali Khan lowly ancestors who were insignificant cavalrymen helped British defeating Ahirs and in return they were rewarded the Jagirs and Title of Nawab of Pataudi.

yes definitely they should have a separate regiment but for now, all these guys are equally divided into Rajput/Jat/punjab and few other regiments.

If you have a picture of Col. sahab, Please PM me, i too wish to see the legend.

Indian SF in Afghanistan was/is involved in analyzing the threat to Indian govts assets in Afghanistan, training the local Army(ex northern alliance) and indirectly being involved in covert actions.

The MARCOS did a great job but so did a lot of other Navies from across the world in anti piracy ops.
DIA Specialists have deputed in Afghanistan Many of them are from SF's Work closely With Afghan NDS

Australian SF bagged 1st position followed by South African SF
nice! Pound for Pound units like the Aussie SASR , GROM are some of the lesser known (but imo) better SOF units out there. We should def expand training with them.

TheSA units also come with tons of history and experience behind them. stuff like this answers the question that there is no such thing as "best" SF unit. Nobody holds a monopoly on SOF capability. only differentiating factors are $$ and experience

what about para sf? did they participate? if yes, which rank did they secure?
Maybe they didnt rank.

Not surprising. Both are extremely well trained. Aussies earned their reputation taking part in operations all over Asia.

South Africans on the other hand wrote the damn book of special operations. Decades of operations against commie forces in Angola. IIRC, many highly experienced Rhodesian commandos also joined RSA SF after Rhodesia became Zimbabwe.

If MARCOS has come out at good ranking in such a competition, it is certainly one of the best news I've heard all week.

The Recces of 70 and 80 were a breed apart , but now they are shadow of their former self due to the political intervention in the selection and training .

Agreed. I always hoped that maybe one day Indian establishment will grow a pair adopt some variant of Fireforce tactic, crushing the naxals.

I thought Greyhounds and Cobras are doing something not so dissimilar, perhaps not as reckless as anti-commie SFs elsewhere.

Not really. Cornerstone of Fireforce was the use of rotary wing in deployment of troops & neutralizing the enemy by sheer firepower. That is not even close to what is being done in the naxal infested areas.

Another template for CAPFs could be LRRP unit of Sri Lankan SF. They are very good at what they do.
