Soon a direct train from Mumbai to Alibaug; 180 escalators on Central and Western Railway
Somit Sen | TNN | Updated: Mar 4, 2019, 02:46 IST
TNN

MUMBAI: Union railway minister

Piyush Goyal
on Sunday hinted at a direct train being planned between Mumbai and Alibaug in the near future. “There is a goods line between Alibaug and Pen, and I plan to introduce a passenger train on this section. Efforts will be taken for new station development along this corridor,” said Goyal at an event held at CSMT to launch several rail projects, including Parel Terminus. “Once Alibaug is connected to Pen, we can have the direct connect to Mumbai as Pen has a regular passenger service towards Thane/Dadar.”

Alibaug, a hotspot for beach lovers, is already connected to Mumbai by road and by sea.

Other major projects announced by Goyal included a new station at Chikhloli located between Ambernath and Badlapur
, and approval for Rs 726-crore Kalyan-Murbad line via Ulhasnagar spanning 28km and for 180escalators on Central Railway and Western Railway.

Rattling off statistics, he said that in 2013-14, the suburban section had just three lifts and now there were 78 lifts; also 16 were under construction and 174 more will come up soon. “Till 2013-14, in Maharashtra, just 650km of railway tracks were electrified. In 2018, we had surpassed 4,000km electrification and another 6,000km is likely to be electrified by year end. It is a major achievement.”

He added that there were just 16 escalators and 320 foot over-bridges (FOB) in Mumbai suburban prior to 2014, and the numbers have increased to 112 escalators and 129 FOBs last year. “While work on 38 escalators is in progress, I have sanctioned a record 180 escalators—115 for CR and 65 for WR today,” said Goyal. “Also,130 more FOBs are being built to give more emphasis on railway infrastructure and passenger convenience.”

“The Parel Terminus was much needed and will be a relief to thousands of office-goers,” Goyal said, adding that one-third of Mumbaikars travel by suburban trains daily. “It’s a mad rush during evening peak hours. We can barely stand after getting into a crowded slow train from Parel to travel to Thane, Kalyan and beyond,” said Shefali Rane, an office-goer.

The MoU for railway handing over 45 acres of land to the state for the Dharavi redevelopment project on a 99-year-lease was also signed at the event. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said: “With the railways handing over the land, it will transform the lives of thousands of Dharavi residents.”

Fadnavis said that the list of projects launched and sanctioned on Sunday was so long that when he was jotting them down on paper before coming to the event, it ran into more than two pages. “In fact, the entire list of our demands for railway projects across Maharashtra has been cleared by the Centre... This is amazing as we have not a single project pending for approvals by the railway ministry.”

Goyal said elevated corridor routes have been planned as per last budgets and there is a 360-degree holistic approach to introduce better Metro, Monorail and suburban rail connectivity in Mumbai in the coming months. “We have already completed Rs 20,000-crore worth projects and work is on for Rs 55,000-crore MUTP projects for which railway ministry has given its nod,” he added.

Make in India: Proud moment! How Indian Railways beat China to become world's largest coach manufacturer

No one would have believed that PM Narendra Modi's Make in India initiative would bring this honour to the country! While the Modi government has been working to promote 'Make in India' in most sectors including smartphones and defence, Indian Railways led from the front.

Not only this, the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, which developed and produced Vande Bharat Express, has broken the record of top Chinese rolling stock manufacturer which produces around 2600 coach a year. Every year, ICF is creating new records by turning out more number of coaches in new types. This year, so far ICF has rolled out 2,919 coaches as of 28th February 2018 which is huge, when compared to 2085 coaches and 1976 coaches turned out during the same period in the year 2018 and 2017 respectively. It is expected to roll out around 3,300 coaches by the March end.

They look like cumulative numbers.
The number in the previous post seem to be data from a single manufacturer.

Keep us posted on WAG-12 development. French have not done a good job in its design and manufacture.

If WAG-12 fails, then what alternative high power freight hauler india has to rely on.

No good news so far. Hanging in limbo.

Both Indeginous developments on the other hand, have been going smoothly.

10000hp WAGC3 up & running... no issues.
11000hp WAG11 is into trials... no hiccups, yet.

Our cumulative numbers also won’t beat Chinese numbers for now. Then again we have 55 thousand coaches in use. Don’t have to produce at the same rate they are doing.
Well the impression I got was that ICF was producing more coaches than top Chinese rolling stock manufacturer
What @shiphone posted looked like cumulative data of all Chinese coaches built by different manufacturers.

ICF now makes more coaches than biggest Chinese firm: Official
..

His contention is that this is way ahead of the largest Chinese rail coach manufacturer, which makes around 2000-2500 coaches a year.
“Overall though, Chineese units may be producing more number of coaches than India does,” a senior ICF official said.

After Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Indian Railways eyes 10 more bullet train routes! Is your city on the list?
It is being said that the entire bullet train project, comprising 10 routes would cover a distance of nearly 6,000 kilometres in total. The project has been estimated to cost around Rs 10 lakh crore.

India’s first, Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will be 508 km long.
Indian Railways eyes expanding the bullet train network! The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is implementing the country’s first bullet train project, linking Mumbai to Ahmedabad, has been asked to study the feasibility of 10 more bullet train corridors. To conduct the survey for running bullet trains on 10 routes, the Railway Board has recently asked for Railway Ministry’s permission. Moreover, to finalize four routes, the ministry is likely to conduct a meeting on Wednesday, according to a Dainik Jagran report. To prepare a feasibility report and a Detailed Project Report (DPR), the NHSRCL would have to choose a firm.

It is being said that the entire bullet train project, comprising 10 routes would cover a distance of nearly 6,000 kilometres in total. The project has been estimated to cost around Rs 10 lakh crore. So far, six routes have already been identified for the bullet train operations. Moreover, the corporation is also likely to work on a report, for bullet train operations between New Delhi and Varanasi.

According to a member of the Railway Board, bullet train operations are being considered to link the national capital to Varanasi, through Delhi-Lucknow via Kanpur and Lucknow-Varanasi via Sultanpur route. According to the report, bullet trains are likely to run between New Delhi-Amritsar, New Delhi-Varanasi, New Delhi-Kolkata, Patna-Kolkata, New Delhi-Mumbai, Chennai-Bengaluru routes.

India’s first, Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will be 508 km long. The bullet train with a speed of 320 kmph is expected to complete a journey between the two cities in around 2 hours. Currently, it takes nearly 7 hours to complete a train journey between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. En route, the high-speed train will cover 12 stations- Bandra Kurla Complex, Virar, Thane, Boisar, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Bilimora, Anand, Sabarmati, Baroda and Ahmedabad railway stations. Work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is likely to get over between 2022 and 2023.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_unit#China
A multiple-unit train or simply multiple unit (MU) is a self-propelled train composed of one or more carriages joined together, which when coupled to another multiple unit can be controlled by a single driver.
we use the term "动车组" and "高铁" , EMU and HighSpeedRail/HSR EMU should be more correct.

-------------------------------------
BTW , CRRC(the top Chinese rolling stock manufacturer) manufactured only 103 so called 'passenger coach' in 2017...the highest record is over 7XXX in around 2012
The Company sold 1,531 locomotives (including track engineering machinery products), 103 passenger carriages, 2,752 EMUs, 51,473 freight wagons and 6,298 rapid transit vehicles and metro vehicles
----------------------
and you'd better try to google with the keyword 'rolling stock manufacturer ranking' to find where you are in this REAL world...LOL

If all you say is true then why WAG -12 has not succeeded in two test runs.
