New combat gear for special cell personnel of Delhi Police
New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) The personnel of special cell of Delhi Police will soon be seen sporting an all new combat gear including modern weapons and black or dark grey uniforms during operations to neutralise hardened criminals and terrorists.
The plan to introduce a new combat gear for officers of the elite special cell has been in the works for some time now and is likely to be finalized within a couple of months, said Arvind Deep, Special Commissioner of Police, who heads the unit. The combat gear will be given to a team of 50-60 officers to be worn during special operations.
He said the the uniform will be comfortable and aid in the easy movement of the combatants. "The uniforms that the officers will wear will be made of cotton and be durable. It will be a loose black or dark grey T-shirt and loose trousers and black shoes. This will be the basic thing and we are still working on the finer details," said the officer.
Apart from a makeover in the uniform, the officers will also get modern weaponry and training. "We have a team of SWAT commandos but these 50-60 officers will be given special training for high level of physical fitness. After getting the special training, these officers will be fit to be utilized in combat operation and high-risk missions," he said.
When asked about the weapons to be provided to them, the officer said details were being worked out.
Deep said the officers will wear the new uniforms in the ?out of cordon? area during an operation. "The combat gear will be worn by the officers in the outer area and not in the area that is in close proximity to the place of operation. Their job will be to ensure the security of outer periphery of the area of the operation and to catch anybody who tries to escape," he said.
"This move will also ensure the security of the Special Cell officers. Without a specific uniform, there is always a threat that the Army and other agencies might mistake them for terrorists and shoot them.
"With black coloured uniforms that will have Special Cell embossed on the back, the officers wont fall victim because of mistaken identity," he said. PTI SLB SK RCJ

Force One building inaugurated
Mumbai, Sep 1 (PTI) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis here today inaugurated the building of Maharashtras anti-terror unit Force One which houses a training centre and hostel for the state commandos.
Built at a budget of Rs 85 crore by Maharashtra Police Welfare and Housing Corporation, the structure has a specialised training institute for commandos besides a hostel facility for 140 personnel, and a 100 metre long firing range.
Speaking on the occasion, Fadnavis said Force One, an elite commando force was set up on the lines of National Security Guards (NSG).
"Its a matter of great pride and happiness that Maharashtra has extremely good and professional units like Force One," he said.
Appreciating the commandos, who displayed their rappelling skills during the inaugural ceremony, CM said, "In movies you do it after repeated takes, with protection of all kinds and editing, but to do rappelling better than them in real life on such a huge building, so smoothly, it is extremely courageous.
"Such good and sophisticated training has been given here," he said.
"I am sure, as long as we have a force like this, we have the strength to tackle any enemy," he added.
Also present were minister Ravindra Waikar, Maharashtra DGP Satish Mathur, Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar and other senior police officials.
The Force One was formed to reduce the response time in case of a terror attack here as it took nine hours for the NSG to fly to Mumbai to take charge of the troubled sites during the dastardly 26/11 terror attacks in the city, which left 166 people dead and over 300 injured.
In the government resolution pertaining to Force One formulation, it was specified this force should be used only for fighting terrorism in the state and not for any other activities, unlike NSG which is also being used for the security of VIPs and politicians.

One cannot deny that Israel's potential in counter terror ops.....even I have a question...why only Force1 why not NSG?

Israelis are pioneers in urban warfare,it's better to get trained from the source.
Being trained in Israel does not mean, NSG does not have a hand in force one's Training. We have to assume some element of interaction between NSG and other QRTs within the country happens on a regular basis.
