Can anyone make a detailed analysis of sensors, weapons and systems planned or being developed which can be used in our future warships such as NGD, NGF & NGC.
Interestingly on naval radars not much progress has been made, no hint anywhere of a 4-face AESA being developed. Also air volume search radar like RAWL and in future LANZA also does not seems to be on card. Only surface search radars are indigenous, also fcr radars for targetting of ciws and naval guns are again of foreign origin. On EW, ESM, comms and EO systems we appear to be self sufficient.
SONAR systems have been an excellent area where we won't need anything of any kind from outside. Also TORPEDOS for atleast indian made vessels and helis will also be Indian in future. Both of these are thanks to great work by NSTL & NPOL.
VLS system is also an issue, though an Indian VLS capable of launching all indigenous missiles seems to be in development as per drdo chief. A vls capable of launching both huge missiles like brahmos and vlsrsam/lrsam(even if quadpacked) seems to be a waste of space, instead 2 size vls concept for less than 600mm dia missiles and more than 600mm dia missiles makes sense, what will be the approach of DRDO remains to be seen. Not stating the fact that no purely indigenous missile is service on-board, both brahmos and lrsam are JVs.
Weapon systems for such an vls would require to be newly deigned on which there is no update, doubting that if work is even going on in this regard. Will require naval XRSAM, vl-asroc like missile, BMD missile, vl-ashm perhaps brahmos-ng or vl-nasm, lrlacm and its variants, naval launched ballistic Ashm and other upcoming new kind of naval weapons. Such a large number of systems will perhaps take atleast a decade to design, test and start deploying. Such systems by 2030 therefore seems far fetched.
Combat management systems and decoys both air and sea are indigenous with the exception of active anti air threat decoy. Hard kill torpbuster is in development.

Unpopular opinion but lack of such critical systems especially in radars and weapons seems that NGD/NGF or P18 to be behind even current top destroyers like type 55, aleigh Burke flt3, sejong the great and atago/maya class.

And why does IN major ships have beam of ~17.5m whereas every major surface combatant of any western, USA, chinese, korean and japanese(major navies) have a beam of ~20m, there must be a reason for it for them to adopt 20m beam.
That's sus if you ask me..

Not much relevant as even with a narrower beam, our ships have good seakeeping in rough sea states and the hulls seem adequate enough to take on more weaponry in future refits. Tbh, more than dimensions as it would be in the past, today's ships are better judged by how much weaponry they pack. If lethality isn't adequate, you're gonna end up with ships that look like expensive oversized OPV's tbh. Case in point, the German F125 class Frigates.

One thing I like about our Indian Navy is that they always give importantance to Indigenous Weopons and Products. Indian Navy is using "made in India" Destroyers ,Frigates , boats, Weopons in large quantity. They are not 100 percent Indigenised, but they are way ahead of Indian airforce and Army in terms of Indigenisation. Hope our other armed branches too do that. Good day:)
