BARAK-8 is the correct word to be used. It is cheap to change the name of a foreign missile.

We should have more dignity and accept what is import as import instead of changing names to make it appear like an indigenous product

BARAK-8 is not an imported stuff.

Barak 8 is also known as LR-SAM or as MR-SAM and It is jointly designed by IAI & DRDO.
For India, it is produced by BDL while for Israel, It is produced by Rafael.

MF STAR radar (most important part of missile defence) is Israeli. The seekers is also Israeli. Only the dumb part like launcher, propulsion is indian. It is important to have the MF STAR radar indigenous manufacturing for BARAK-8 to be indian.

It was about Missile not Air defense system. Anyways Indian Army don't have MF-STAR..
And SR-SAM,MR-SAM and LR-SAM are the category of SAMs not the Name.

32 future SRSAM/16 Nirbhay...............................
The problem with nirbhay type slow missile was seen in 1971 war where pakistan discovered that such missile can be shot down by machine gun fire.

AK630 was also based on similar logic. The only way to defeat such simple methods of self defense is by using brahmos.

If IN want to have Nirbhay LACM on Kolkata class Destroyers than they have to replace some BrahMos LACM. At present there is no plan to increase missile on it. Even Project P15B (Vishakhapattanam Class) will have 16 VLS for BrahMos and 32 for SAMs (which is 16 on P15A i.e. Kolkata Class)

It's just as fast as P 15, the same missile the fucked them in 1971.

There has never been any single case of an AShM being shot down by the target ship in combat situation. Add to that the fact that most missiles nowadays use terminal manoeuvring and supersonic sprints to give the target least possible reaction time means that successfully shooting down of AShM is very difficult.

I would place some trust in the Barak 8 simply because the Isrealis have demonstrated terminal air defence with Iron Dome.

And I believe India shared some of Brahmos specs with them during development; the Israelis wished to counter the Yakhont inducted by Egypt and Syria.

Oops my bad,
Both p15a and p15b have same number of missile but the difference will be the launcher type.

P15a have VLS for SAM and UVLM for BrahMos but in p15b all the missiles will be fitted into a Universal Vertical Launcher Module (UVLM).

Was about to point this out. A UVLS has been developed for Barak-8/Brahmos/Nirbhay with significantly greater number of cells and thus far greater flexibility of mission payloads.

And a 127mm Oto melara cannon, instead of the 76 one

Missiles of different weights and dimensions can be fired from same launcher? Incredible.

P15A uses normal Brahmos 650 mm diameter. No Capital ship will use the Brahmos-M (0.52 mm). Those are meant to replace the Uran type subsonic missiles on Corvettes etc.
