interesting comment:The Indian Army, I am happy to report, is dead pleased with the Pinaka: with three regiments operational and two more in the pipeline, things are looking good.
As the CO & chief testing Officer (could not help saying that )of the rocket regiment which tested the Pinaka during the final user trials at Pokaran in 200r it is good to know that the Pinaka has been well received.
We had tested a Fire Direction radar also during the trails which failed when the DG Arty was checking out the system. One sore point was the software which was primitive at that time.Hope it has improved since then
it is home made, kind of special, since it require flat stable platform to fire rocket, any change in that would result in rocket going off target. It has special software for this to make the platform flat. Made by L&T.Why were ?, Did we devloped a indegenious one ?
shifted to the army sectionwhy is this in the navy section???
Pinaka rockets successfully test-fired
BALASORE (Odisha): Indigenously developed Pinaka rockets, capable of destroying enemy positions at 40kms-range with rapid salvos, were on Thursday successfully test- fired thrice from a multi-barrel launcher at an armament base in Chandipur-on- sea, near here. The rockets, which have undergone several tough tests since 1995, have been already inducted into the armed forces and the present trials were conducted with some improvements in the weapon system, defence sources said, adding some more tests are likely to be held. "Three rounds of Pinaka rockets were successfully tested from the proof and experimental establishment (PXE) today at Chandipur," about 15km from here, they said. The unguided rocket system is meant to neutralise large areas with rapid salvos. With a battery of six launchers, the system can fire a salvo of 12 rockets in 44 seconds and neutralise a target area of 3.9 sq km. The rockets, which act as force- multiplier, were developed to supplement artillery guns, the sources said. The quick reaction time and high rate of fire of the system give an edge to the army during a low- intensity conflict situation, they said. The system's capability to incorporate several types of warheads makes it deadly for the enemy as the rockets could even destroy solid structures and bunkers. In July last year, an advanced, second generation Pinaka Mark II Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System had undergone successful trials at Chandhan area in Pokhran field firing ranges in western Rajasthan and is in development stage, the sources said. The development and trials of the advanced system will continue and it is expected to enter service very soon, they said.

Pinaka Mark 2 to enter Production next year : Drdo
After Pinaka Mark 2 rockets were successfully test fired from a multi-barrel rocket launcher this year from Experimental Establishment (PXE) at Chandipur firing range. DRDO plans to start production of the Rocket systems by end of 2015 .
Earlier this year 6 rockets were tested successfully , Pinaka mark-2 has the same dimensions as its predecessor, but its range will up to 60 km, as compared to Mark-1"²s 39 km. advanced version Mark-II rockets with a range of more than 60 km, will be capable of acting as a force-multiplier and was developed to supplement artillery guns, quick reaction time and high rate of fire of the system will give an edge to the Army during a low-intensity conflict situation.
The Pinaka system with a battery of six launchers could fire a salvo of 12 rockets in 44 seconds and could neutralise a target area of 3.9 sq km. DRDO also plans to develop longer Pinaka 2 or MK 3 which will have longer range and will supplement Russian supplied Smerch multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) , TOT for which was denied by Russia to India .
Pinaka 2 or MK 3 totally will be based on new design and will have bigger dimensions and will carry heavier warheads , range for the new Pinaka 2 or MK 3 will exceed Smerch MLRS effective range of 80-90km as per sources close to idrw.org . Pakistani Army already has fielded Chinese made A-100 multiple launch rocket system, which is a copy of Russian Smerch Rocket systems .

i think trials are overIs there something or some trials still pending?
i think trials are over
no body was claiming it to be Pinaka-II .... ... what is the objection here? Its Pinaka-I Blk 2. Pinaka-II will have nearly 90-100 km range and will be likely have larger diameter.
