Foxconn? really? Foxconn is good at putting together components from different vendors. They have no experience in semiconductor manufacturing. I don't know what exactly they will bring to the table here that Vedanta would be interested in. I hope Vedanta is going for setting up 28nm node at least.

Oh fuck, now that tower is acquired I highly doubt Intel will follow through with that proposal. GoI needs to up the ante. US and EU are doling out $50 billion and they already have a ecosystem for semiconductor fabs. We have to dole out $20 billion payed over period of time depending on the output and indigenization.

There r 3 steps or objectives to achieve:

1.We need industrial robots with high accuracy and speed. Even Chinese just before global lockdown bought 2nd hand Japanese machines.
After chene gandumasti Japan and US blocked all the manuals and ban on Chinese semiconductor companies, so basically the machines r rotting in the chene warehouse.
We import all the robots even for car production.

2. Etching techniques, laser and lenses. I guess we have some experience at least WRT defence application.
The lens design will be extremely complicated.

3. The most important. ECAD/computational lithography.

ECAD is electronics Computer aided designing is the software through which chips r designed.
Examples r Siemens, autodesk, ansys, synopsis.

Computational lithography was pioneered by an ASML subsidiary.

government is seeking to train 85,000 engineers and 2.5 lakh shop and floor workers at educational hubs, which will come up around the manufacturing units. The clusters will have a mix of high school, medium skill training centres, and engineering colleges. It also needs around 5,000-6,000 research scholars who have at least a PhD. government will fully finance these institutions provided they absorb all of the trained professionals. The curriculum will, in part, be designed by the companies so they can set industry benchmarks in skill sets as per the changing innovations.

I mean we could not able to bring them due to various policy paralysis. Now only we started to calling them via PLI schemes with some big concessions. It takes time. My fear is even if we put massive effort to support this program does our private industrial giants is ready to accept this. Because after 5Gi standards fiasco I have some trust issues with our private players.

Few things needed to done to get the program successful.
1. Form a partnership with Academics and Industries.
2. Shakti consist of Micro-controllers to complex CPU. Find applications in each field and ask respective companies to adopt this processors.
3. IF Fab PLI came make them to manufacture this processors.

Also at the same time it is necessary to start developing productivity apps from Indian companies. Companies like TCS, Infosys are sitting in huge pile of cash but still does not involve in app development teams. Microsoft have a division called Garages whose primary role is to build apps for various OS and Devices.

Only Indian company to have this type of products is ZOHO who has docs, sheets, slides and other productivity related apps.
