The context of the post is whether you keep any savings at the end of the month. $3500 salary in USA leads to $0 savings at the end of the month. $600 salary in Mexico has more savings than someone earning $3500 in USA. This is true.
You cannot look at things like "income" without putting it in the context of health, environment, safety and security.

My friends work in the Nigerian Delta region, and each of them is minting big money but they are desperate to return even if it means earning a fraction of their incomes. Why? Because the Niger Delta is a war zone. Not a day goes by without a major incident, they cannot go out even to buy groceries without armed guards.

There is no meaning to "savings" if you are living in an unstable volatile country. This is why Mexicans love to migrate to the US, not vice versa.

Japan went through its Meiji restoration from 1870-1900 when it dramatically industrialized, modernized its entire system, and matched western industry all the way from an agrarian society. During this time, they had a very high percentage of stunting and malnutrition, but achieved very high growth. That chart shows it.

Japan's later growth you're referring to is their post war growth, where they made their population genuinely middle class using the knowledge they already gained from their previous industrialization phase.

So this chart proves my point that you can have high growth while a large percent of your population unfortunately lacks proper nutrition. Post 1991 is India's first industrialization attempt where you can have high growth with just building up infrastructure and freeing the economy. Of course nutrition should be ensured if we want to reach upper middle income.
This also shows that a leader with a futuristic vision like Emperor Meiji would have been useful around India’s independence times. Instead we got sickular Nehuru . Tragedy.

There are a lot of permutation and combination to this:
Which state in US?
Which city in that state?
Which district of locality you live in that city?
Which sector you are working in?
What company you are working for?
What role you have in that company?

There is lot of crime in multiple US cities, but they are definitely not a war zone in any of those. At least not to a comparable level with Mexican cities.

Yep, but overall its always in the back of the mind going anywhere near cities in USA. So mentally its about same intensity of thinking minus the real warzone type countries where you can die from something that is coming from 100s of km.
USA is a great country but unfortunately on downward spiral since Clinton. With a stretch you can make it started around NIxon time. They are almost successful ruining it.

You cannot compare US cities to Mexico.

Believe it or not, The level of violence in Mexico is somewhat similar to Pakistan.

The cartels have such a stronghold over some areas that even their police and military are reluctant to fight.

It's only the overwhelming support from the US that has prevented Mexico from falling into a full-blown civil war.

Its an open secret who runs the world wide drug programs....all things go around and come back to hit you. Bad things cause bad effects. It is true, mexican's accept cartels and treat them as employers, entire families depend on cartels in some places. It is a pseudo govt in itself and roots are deep into their legitimate govt.

not sure which cities you are talking about.. been here in US close to 17 years now. none of these are war zone level. the closest it came to being "war zone" was during the BLM protest which is mostly far left protest as well.

its more pandering to ultra left thats killing the US society but thats being countered and getting a counter weight as well.

calling them a war zone and a downward spiral is a big stretch at this point.

there are 5 states in USA whose economy is more than 1 trillion (this is state wise) which many countries with multiple levels of population havent reached.
their handling of the water table, climate, economy has been very good. if we (India) doesnt have similar structures in place, it will face a lot of problems (water table going down etc).
there are definitely issue.. but absolutely not a war zone.

I lived in US so I know what I am talking about, I dare you to go into inner cities during even day time or take a wrong exit without a plan in mind. It is always in the back of your mind, if its not then you are plain stupid. To make it interesting, take your family with you while you are at it since its such a picnic.

You are part of the reason why US has been on downward spiral, with printing anyone can create something with some momentum that US has from its prolific productivity era. Don;'t gloat when you are $34t in debt and no way to pay and only show is paper money infusion of stock market. No wonder 100k income is not enough to have some decent savings and one incident away from medical bankruptcy. Educate yourself and be helpful to USA by understanding reality. DOn't quote stupid trillion dollar economy states....people shit in streets and sleep in cars in that state.

Debt is the biggest threat to long term economic stability of US , second is Wokism .

Wrong thread but I'll answer it anyways

A friend of my friend was killed in a gang war.Her name was Anjali Ryot who was working for LinkedIn and was also a travel vlogger

So no, living in Mexico is not better than living in the US.
I remember the news story. My sympathies. One plus note, India does not have, has never had, any problem worth mentioning with Mexico, since 1947. There is increasing trade and investment by India, in Mexico. There are a few thousand Indians working in Mexico, let's hope not to hear of any more awful incidents like Anjali's.

The Cartels from Mexico are like a standalone army of their own who can raid and rule over whole nations around the world!!

More Indian's lost life in west than Mexico. Its a fact. Normal people also live in Mexico and majority of them and same with west. Media exaggerates but one needs to be mindful around their surroundings in foreign countries specifically.
