And it makes Fidayeen attacks far less attractive than IEDs, so they are hedging their bets on IED attacks hoping that sufficient explosive power will be enough to overcome armoured protections.

Remember, Naxals have been trying the same strategy against CRPF/Police MPVs.

There were IED problems in the early 90s too. In one raid we got hold of a 3000 litre Sintex tank filled with explosives meant to make IEDs!! That must have weighed almost a ton!

Road opening parties (ROPs) were tasked to check IEDs too, planted along the road especially near culverts before movement of Admin convoys. After the all clear, convoys were allowed to proceed.

However there were no ROPs deployed during ops like CASO and S&D etc.
