Army said 'multiple attempts' by militants to sneak into J&K from PoK through various sectors of LoC were foiled by ‘alert’ troops.

Srinagar: While foiling a fourth infiltration bid in row, the Army on Saturday killed a militant along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district. With this the toll among the infiltrating militants in a series of clashes with the Army during past four days has risen to 13, whereas, one soldier was also martyred and two others were injured.

Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said, “One terrorist was killed by own troops in Gurez sector on Saturday. The weapon in his use has been seized. The operation is in progress.”

The Army said that the fire fight began when the troops guarding the de facto border observed movement of militants trying to sneak into the 2,580 m high Gurez valley, about 86 km from district headquarters Bandipora and 123 km north of Srinagar, from across and challenged them.

Earlier on Friday, the Army had claimed foiling an infiltration bid in Gwalta area of Uri sector of neighbouring Baramulla district after killing five militants. In the same area, two soldiers of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) were injured when the militants opened fire at a patrolling party on Thursday.

The Army said that “multiple attempts” have been made by militants to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir from PoK through various sectors of the LoC including Macheal, Nowgam, Uri and Gurez in Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora districts during the past week. All these attempts were, however, foiled by “alert” troops.

The Army has alleged that the infiltrating militants were helped by the Pakistani troops by providing them active support including heavy calibre artillery covering fire. Islamabad has yet to react to it but has denied such charges in the past.

The defence spokesman said that during this year, so far, as many as two dozen infiltration attempts were foiled by the Army troops along the LoC during which 40 armed intruders were killed. “Relentless operations by security forces have defeated desperate attempts by Pakistan and its agents to spread terror in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramadan,” the spokesman had said in a statement issued from the Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur on Thursday.

Reiterating it on Saturday, the Udhampur-based defence spokesman Colonel N.N. Joshi said that Pakistan army’s “sinister designs” to push in multiple groups of armed intruders across the LoC continue to be defeated by proactive operations being carried out by the Indian Army along the de facto border. “Relentless operations mounted by troops have successfully intercepted groups of armed intruders all along the LoC in Gurez, Machael, Nowgam and Uri Sectors leading to elimination of 13 armed intruders in the past 96 hours. This includes groups of four and three armed intruders who were tracked and eliminated in the Machael and Nowgam sectors, respectively as reported on June 8. Since then, the operations in Uri and Gurez sectors have further progressed,” the spokesman said.

He added that five intruders were killed in Uri, so far, and one intruder in Gurez. “The explosives, inflammable material, arms and ammunition recovered from the armed intruders indicate Pakistan’s designs to orchestrate high profile terror incidents targeting innocent civilian population and security forces during the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the J&K police on Saturday said that one civilian identified as Aarif Ahmed Dar was injured when militants targeted two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) vehicles with gunfire at Vesu along the Srinagar-Jammu highway at 5 am. The assailants, however, missed the intended target and instead the car being driven by the civilian behind the ITBP vehicles was hit in the gunfire. “About 20 empty cases of AK ammunition were found on the spot,” the police said.

Separately, the residents of Nadpora village in neighbouring Shopian district accused the Army of ransacking several houses and breaking windowpanes of these in reprisal to a stone-pelting incident. The locals said that some youth pelted stones on a patrol party of the Army moving on a road through Nadpora following which the troops detained one person identified as Ubaid nazir and also attacked the private properties.

Pakistan's spy agency ISI is planning a major terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab as four terrorists have already infiltrated into India from the Punjab border, according to an Intelligence Bureau (IB) input shared with the state governments.

The input, a copy of which is with IANS, warns that the planned Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) attack may take place within the next 15 days in Kathua near Jammu and Gurdaspur and Pathankot in Punjab.

"The ISI is planning a major terrorist attack in Kathua, Gurdaspur and Pathankot. In this regard, four terrorists have already infiltrated into Punjab through Bamtal sector a few days ago," says the undated IB note shared with governments in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab earlier this week.

The IB says that the "terrorists" were now waiting for arms and ammunition to be supplied from Pakistan and a drug peddler was being used as a courier.

"They (the terrorists) are waiting for the supply of arms and ammunition to be provided by the ISI. The ISI has also hired a drug courier to hand over the consignment of arms and ammunition to these terrorists within next 15 days," says the IB note, asking the governments and security agencies to take "necessary preventive and precautionary measures as deemed fit".

Pathankot had earlier been the centre of a major terror strike by four Pakistani terrorists who crossed over from Pakistan and launched a nearly three-day bomb and gun attack on an Indian Air Force base in the border town.

Seven security personnel were killed in the January 2, 2016, assault that broke down planned talks between India and Pakistan.

India blamed Pakistan's Jaish-e-Mohammed, an ISI-supported terror group, for the Pathankot attack.

Why can't the police arrest those in charge of the mosque and prosecute them. A few of such actions and people will fall in line.

This is where delay in deploying Dhanush artillery is so painful. We need those 18 first lot of dhanush guns on LOC asap. Nothing works better than 155mm artillery to fry porki ass.
We should graduate to 130mm medium guns that we have. But unfortunately, we're still using pea shooters - 81mm mortars, 105 mm IFGs and a few 120mm mortars. Some IFGs are of course being used in the direct firing role.

I fail to comprehend why we aren't using these high caliber artillery guns. Are we scared of escalating the situation? We are at war on the LoC dammit and need to pummel them with what we've got.

Instead of field firing at the artillery ranges, we should conduct artillery firing practice with training ammo near the LoC instead. This way, we kill two birds with one stone.....on-the-job-training and screwing the Porks and their mercenaries. We also get the opportunity of training crews with the help of satellite imagery. Two minutes of real time video from CARTOSAT 2C every 90 minutes - enough time to bracket the targets including terrorist launch pads and training camps.

I haven't even got started on using UAVs for real time info on these launch pads for directing artillery fire.

As I said, we are NOT making full use of the assets we have. And that's intriguing.

Because the present dispensation in Kashmir headed by a lame duck pro militant CM, Mehbooba Mufti hasn't got the balls to take any action. Oh wait....Did I say 'balls'? Ooops! She's not supposed to have any so that should have read 'guts'.

Let them. What would be their targets? Our posts are well protected thick RCC structures and camouflaged unlike the mud huts of theirs. All they can target are villages which they would avoid as some Paki commentators themselves have mentioned that this would be a bad idea since that would 'alienate the Kashmiris'. In contrast, we have targets - terrorist camps and launch pads and their posts which stick out like sore thumbs.

And we have the Bofors which they are paranoid about seeing the destruction they caused in Kargil. In other words, it's advantage us.

Would using Brahmos missile on terrorist launch pad be considered an act of war. :confused1:

If we are aware of the terrorist launch pad we can use some of our guided missile system for precision strike avoiding major casualties on our size.
Damn we can even do air strike through Helicopter, I don't think these terrorist extensively use RPG's so chance of their retaliation is really low.

Use those damned Bramohos :brahmos::brahmos::brahmos::brahmos::brahmos::brahmos::brahmos::brahmos:

Yasin Malik and his aides have been arrested in Shopian, South Kashmir

This SOB gets 'arrested' every second minute! WTF is going on? He and his ilk of the Hurriyat need to be put in the frikkin block-hole permanently or thrown on one of the uninhabited islands in the Andamans.

Errrr...But that will piss off the human rights bimbos who will crawl out of the woodwork for their few minutes of fame in the media. Jeeez!
