Sajid Mir ordered shipping of 60,000 rounds ammunition into India by sea
It was the year 2009 when investigations revealed that Sajid Mir the transcontinental terrorist from Pakistan had cleared the name of Ahmed Yakub to ship 60,000 rounds of ammunition through the sea into India. Ahmed Yakub was appointed and cleared by Sajid Mir who incidentally was the handler of David Headley. This bit of the investigation was even confirmed by the US Treasury.
Was Pakistan's boat of terror part of the same plan?
Intelligence Bureau officials confirm that the boat that was sailing into India was on a reconnaissance mission. While investigations are still underway, agency sources say that there have been several attempts that were made in the past as well to smuggle arms into the country.
Mir's maritime mission:
According to the investigation that was conducted after the arrest of David Headley, the names of several persons including transcontinental terrorist Sajid Mir alias Sajeed Majeed began to crop up. During the probe it was found that he had cleared the appointment of Ahmed Yakub as the head of the Lashkar's maritime unit. Yakub was given a specific role to ship 60000 rounds of ammunition into India. This according to the investigation was also part of the ambitious Karachi Project that is being plotted in Pakistan.
Lashkar's naval wing has former officials:
The Lashkar's naval wing is considered to be one of the deadliest in the world. It has at its services former officials of the Pakistan navy who have voluntarily joined the force. In addition to this the Lashkar's maritime wing has the support of the Pakistan navy which aides and assists it. In case a boat needs to sail into India in an attempt to carry out a subversive activity all the intelligence is provided by the Pakistan navy and ISI.
Mir's latest mission:
The latest on Sajid Mir suggests that he is in Murdike. This camp of the Lashkar housed near Lahore also houses members of the maritime force. Based on the intelligence inputs gathered by the Indian and Israeli agencies it was found that Mir had returned to Murdike and was planning on executing the second part of the Karachi project. It was also found by the agencies that Mir had set his eyes on recruitments from Gujarat and Maharasthra thus giving an indicator that he was planning something major in these states.
Pakistan likely to get aggressive:
The return of Mir to the Murdike camp indicates that there is a great deal of uneasiness among the Lashkar cadres. This is something that had happened prior to the 26/11 attack as well. Each time there is discontent in the Lashkar an attack on India is planned and this has been the pattern. Mir taking active interest in Murdike and also the incessant cross border firing are all indicators that Pakistan is planning something major on Indian soil.
The Indian agencies have acted on every possible input that they have got this time. However agencies also warn that incidents like the one on the coast and cross border firing could well be distractions and the security set up can never let its guard down.
