Is there any chance to convert Supersonic BRAHMOS into Missile defence system...
I got this dream early morning .. BrahMos is very sophisticated missile.
I don't Know the potential of BrahMos as altitude wise...
Is there any chance by adding a Seeker to BrahMos we can develop Missile defense system...
It would be total KICK-ASS .. It will give better protection.
We can fire multiple missile at a time.. Easily transportable... very light weight compared to Prithvi missile

Brahmos is a low altitude cruise missile..a missile defence system based on it will be unable to stop irbm n icbms hurtling down at mach 5 or above..brahmos may well intercept slower cruise missiles..but whats use of seperate missile defence fr cruise n ballistic when..one can do both with a bmd..n guys..the latest test in april failed..PDV Interceptor failed last test, due to sensor fault : DRDO Chief | idrw.org chief concedes.

^^^^When the test failed,why did press report it as sucess? It is not failed test but these kind of false reporting which brings bad reputation to DRDO and in whole the Indian defense weapons.

Saaar! DRDO Chief himself said it failed to intercept.
It is hardly an issue. Failing to intercept is just 1 test point short of a full success, out of tens/hundreds of test points. Just some tinkering needed with the seeker, thats all.

Imo it is not practical for two reasons
1 brahmos is too heavy
2 brahmos is too fast flying at hypersonic speeds would make any maneuverability difficult
To change course quickly could rip the missile apart. It is too big to have any role of a
Quick reaction missile.

How come PDV (prithvi) can do this... It is much heavier missile (4400 - 5600 kg) than bramhos(3000)..
Brahmos has advantage of high mobility -> canister launched, Easy production,
But we can fire 2-3 missiles at very quick reaction time...
As per maneuverability we can make some modifications. as per needs...

8000 Rockets were fired from Gaza strip onto israe and yet no one died due to Israe 'Iron Dome' rocket defense system. looks ike israel has realy got a great technoogy for defense. Hope our ballistic missile defence reaches same maturity level.

i doubt that iron dome can defend against ballistic missiles. If they can, israel has a gem in their military...

90% of cheaply made indequate rockets fired from Gaza were successfully intercepted and destroyed by the US funded Iron Dome air defence system. But, i highly doubt it would be effective against decent missiles, ask Russia for more details.

Anti-missile systems are like shooting an arrow with another arrow. These are technically very difficult systems to build. We offer good wishes to our scientists but one should be rational at the same time. We should wait and discuss these systems when matured and ready to be deployed.
Testing ABM systems is very expensive. Both the killer missile and target missiles are expensive. This is a destructive test. So you are looking at hundreds of crores for each test.
The worst part is ABM systems are not fool-proof. Enemy can jam or degrade you radar so that you miss the incoming missiles. So the system may not work even if you have it.
The enemy can also saturate your air defences by launching a large number of dummy missiles.
So while we wish the scientists good luck, it is not right to have high expectations.

How do you jam a long range ABM radar? What does dummy missile achieve? Nothing It only triggers a massive retaliation from India. ABM is a must It pretty much destroys pakistans economy since they will spend everything on more missiles and prevents any chance of economic recovery for them. China is already shitting at thought of ABM in India and with SK and JAPAN.
