from Russia. As the war continues their supply is expected

The T-90 tanks are based on Russian technology.

There are certain crucial sub-assemblies for which the factory
depend, as drawings have not been shared yet.
These include certain electro-mechanical components, said a source.

As against this almost 98% indigenization has been achieved
for the T-72 tanks, which are also based on Russian know-how.

The tanks are made at the Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited
Limited (AVNL), at Avadi in Tamil Nadu.
The PSU has been carved out of earlier ordnance factories like
the Heavy Vehicles Factory at Chennai, Ordnance Factory Project
Medak, Vehicle Factory at Jabalpur, and the Engine factory at chennai.

The AVNL has also taken proactive steps to tackle the situation
although it may take some months to show results.

Union sources said even the employees’ associations have been
stressing on the indigenization of production.
This takes care of a major component.

Meanwhile, in an independent development, the 155x52 mm caliber

advanced towed artillery gun systems (ATAGs), made by the p
rivate sector companies — Bharat Forge and Tatas — are expected
to go through a round of trials in the coming weeks.

These would be reliability firing, as it happened for the Dhanush
guns made by Advance Weapons and Equipment Limited (AWEL)
also a PSU formed out of the ordnance factories.

The article is a year old, although would be good to get an update on how much of an impact the war has had.

While I do realize that you said that in jest, the same holds true for any other tank, including the latest iterations of their M1 Abrams.

The later batches of T-90 produced from raw material stage has protection levels higher than the original Russian T-90A. Because Spade steel was replaced with indigenously designed steel of DMRL and the Russian composite cavity was replaced with Indian Kanchan.

Kanchan of the 90s is different from that of the late 2000s because this has been constantly improved with newer materials.

Besides even a vanilla Javelin could wreck havoc in the very latest M1A2 sep v3 Abrams . Havoc as in the people in the turret dead of fatally wounded . The turret won't blow off as in T series but the tank would be rendered combat incapable. Same is true for the Chally 2 and Leo 2A7.


Have some respect for the Bhisma. This isn't your grandpa's T-55 or T-62.

From what I've heard, the later batches are actually a few metric tons heavier than their Russian counterparts. Oh and the Chally or the Leopard 2s have even greater chances of their turrets going ballistic as compared to the T-90S (given no extra ammo is being carried other than the ones in the carousel) in case of a penetrating heat.
