IPS officer to take up post at Indian Army HQ to deal with human rights issues
Approved under a plan called 'Reorganisation of the Army headquarters', the move is part of a major restructuring of the armed forces.

Why a civilian officer should wield any power in military affairs??abso absolu bad idea. If military tribunals and courts are seperate from civilian ,why this now???there will be a tussle between HM and DM/Armed forces over these matters

Human Rights are a matter of Law.

Hence in the babu mindset it makes sense to have a law enforcement specialist to handle this portfolio even if its a massive breach of boundaries.

If we had a proper internal security apparatus that didn't require intervention of the military then none of this would matter. IA has no business doing COIN within own borders. With 370 gone, I expect RR to be formally stood down and all duties in Kashmir taken over either by a re-jigged CRPF or a totally new paramilitary force akin to the Assam Rifles.

Current situation will not go unchallenged post Oct 31st

NEW DELHI
Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd (HFCL) said on Tuesday it has received its largest-ever purchase order worth Rs 2,467 crore from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) for turnkey development, operations, and maintenance of a communication network for the Indian Army. [Politicians and general public cry if contracts given to private companies citing national security. example HAL, OFBs. Here Govt gives contract to BSNL who further subcontracts entire stuff to private company. LOL! OFB does similar stuff. Ofcourse OFBs, BSNL get hefty commissions]

The project is to be completed within 18 months. The project has additional operations and maintenance component of Rs 862 crore to be realised over a period of 10 years from the commissioning of the network. The combined value of the project thus stands at Rs 3,329 crore.

Funded by the Department of Telecom, the turnkey project entails design, development, deployment, and maintenance of converged nationwide IP/MPLS backbone with 219 X access networks and integrated IMS based communication solutions under the network for spectrum programme.

"This next-generation network will connect various locations of the Indian Army while also integrating all existing and legacy networks with this advanced IP/MPLS network to offer seamless and secure transmission of voice, data, video, and multi-media," HFCL said in a statement.

HFCL is a telecom infrastructure developer, system integrator and manufacturer of high-end telecom equipment and optical fibre cables, having manufacturing facilities at Solan, Goa, and Chennai. (ANI)

Army brings uniformity in uniform for officers above Colnel rank Currently, depending on the regiment or arm that an officer belongs to, the colour of the beret, lanyard, badge, etc., differ and the badge on the belt is also different.

Isn't it far more important to get rid of the 5-6 camo patterns being worn by jawans on the field right now.

JAIPUR: The barrel of a T-90 battle tank of the Indian Army exploded during a war exercise session in the Pokhran field firing range in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district, a defence spokesperson said Thursday.

Defence spokesperson Colonel Sombit Ghosh said the incident took place on Wednesday when the barrel of the tank exploded with a huge bang.

However, no loss of life was reported, he said.

More ammunition going boom inside the barrel.
Sounds like OFB manufactured high quality ammunition.
Whatever, would have to wait for army report.

Indian army hands over 10 Tata Safari Storme SUVs to Myanmar army
The Indian Army has handed over 10 military-spec Tata Safari Storme SUVs to the Myanmar Army. The said vehicles were handed over by the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar. According to a recent tweet by ANI, the delivery of the vehicles to was promised to the Myanmar Commander-in-Chief by the Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat in his recent visit to India. The Tata Safari Storme is the new chariot of the Indian Army. It is set to replace the ageing Maruti Suzuki Gypsy which will be removed from the Amry's fleet in a phased manner. The reason for the replacement comes in the wake of the upcoming safety and emission regulations which the Gypsy is not going to meet.

Indian Armymen to become Super Soldiers? May soon use Exoskeleton Technology; here’s everything about next gen Exo-suits

According to experts, India is already incurring expenditure on upgrading wearable gear on each soldier to meet the ever-changing combat environment challenges, but there is a limitation up to which equipment can be fitted onto a soldier’s body.

I will be honest, this is simply jumping the gun, has anyone seen the current infantry loadout?
A 1974 helmet, chest rigs straight out of somalia, crappy rifle, crappy boots etc etc.
No advanced armour, helmets, rifles or boots.

Actually that is laughable our Infantry still don't have access to standard basic things like helmet, boots, assault rifle, protection shield and we talk about upgrading them to Sci-fi army.
First provide these poor chaps atleast basic equipments.

Thank Khangress for zero upgradation post-2004, while choking indigenous R&D of proper funding.

Now-a-days their photos of troop-inspection at border look like these...

As you can see in this picture BSF Jawans are wearing Army's old 1974 model helmets while Army Jawans have new MKU Helmets. MHA has placed separate order for 1.2 ACHs but those are being distributed to all CAPFs. Till then BSF will use Army's old ones.

#ArmyCdrNC alongwith #ChinarCorpsCdr reviewed the security situation in forward areas of #Kupwara; interacted & complimented the troops for their steadfastness in foiling infiltration bids & commended them for their dedication to duty. #Kashmir #IndianArmy #CommonCausePeace

#LtGenRanbirSingh, #ArmyCdrNC visited forward posts in Rajouri & Akhnoor sector, reviewed op preparedness and appreciated measures being taken to ensure robust CI grid & aggressive domination of LC; exhorted all ranks to remain vigilant.

#ArmyCdrNC Lt Gen Ranbir Singh visited troops deployed in forward bases & posts accompanied by Offg GOC @Whiteknight_IA Maj Gen DS Gill, briefed by commanders on op preparedness & security situation, Army Cdr exhorted troops for professionalism & selfless devotion to nation
It will take atleast a decade for gear & equipment of regulars to even catch-up.
