i am not insinuating that the force is not doing good.
i am simply pointing out that there is hardly any "special requirement" kit for the soldier that was procured in last 9 months or so. when i say not procured, i mean tender was not issued.

More over this is not about govt, it is about IA procurement planning.
Tendering is mainly to test weapons. Once ordered, one doesn't keep ordering. For example, Ak203 has orders of 7 lakh rifles. Do you want this every 6 month to have 7 lakh order repeatedly

In a welcome change on earlier unreasonable stance, the Armed Forces would do well well to protect interests of their battle casualties and physical casualties in the line of duty.

Disability pension: No benefit for lifestyle diseases, says Army
https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/n...-for-lifestyle-diseases-says-army/804143.html

Ajay Banerjee
Tribune News Service
New Delhi, July 18

In what could set a future template for claiming “disability” due to service in the armed forces, the forces are veering towards the idea that lifestyle diseases should not merit benefits such as tax-free pension, while those who get physical injuries in battle on peace postings should be given their due.

With close to 40 per cent of “disability” cases being of lifestyle issues, the Army is clear that “non physical” injuries should not merit any benefits. “People have claimed disability for hypertension, lower back ache, diabetes, hearing loss and obesity-linked disorders,” a top military official told The Tribune. Such “non-physical” diseases have not been caused in line of combat or even an accident at a military exercise. These persons with “non-physical” injuries are also eligible for “disability pensions” that provide for the pension and disability pension being tax-free.

The disability pension is graded as per the injury of the person. And that gradation further translates into quantum of “disability pension”. It can vary from 60 per cent to 15 per cent of the last pay drawn. In case of officers at Colonel level and above, the pension and disability pension can collectively be anything between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh per month.
Last week, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in the Rajya Sabha that “no soldier with a disability will be inconvenienced”.

The “disability gradation” system makes a distinction of its own. For those injured or disabled in combat, the government provides for free education, including boarding and lodging of their children. This facility has no upper ceiling for fee and kids can do MMBS, BCA, LLB among other degrees from the institute of their choice. Such soldiers are also entitled to free medical facilities till they are alive.

The issue of taxing disability pensions has become a political issue and has been raised twice in Parliament. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had on June 24 issued a circular, saying disability pension would be taxed if the soldier had served his full term with the armed forces. The circular said only those “invalidated” from service would continue to get tax benefits. The order has drawn sharp reactions with some veterans referring it as “taxing the disabled”. The MoD has sought a clarification from the CBDT and the issue is being re-examined by the ministry.

Army monitoring Chinese activities in Doklam: Defence Ministry report
India and China have reduced their presence on the Doklam plateau post the disengagement in 2017, but the India Army is monitoring Chinese activities in the area and is adequately prepared to respond to any contingency, the Defence Ministry said in a report.

India and China have reduced their presence on the Doklam plateau post the disengagement in 2017, but the India Army is monitoring Chinese activities in the area and is adequately prepared to respond to any contingency, the Defence Ministry said in a report.

In its annual report 2018-19, the ministry also said that Pakistan should take "credible and irreversible" steps to stop supporting terrorists and terror groups operating from territories under its control and dismantle infrastructure operated by them.

It said India will continue to take "robust and decisive" steps to ensure its national security.

Following the disengagement on August 28, 2017, after a 72-day standoff at Doklam, Indian and Chinese troops were redeployed away from their respective positions.

This year, the number of Chinese transgressions have considerably reduced, so has the faceoffs, aggressive interactions during such instances.

"(But) the Indian Army is continuously monitoring Chinese activities in the area and is adequately prepared to respond to any contingency," the defence ministry report said.

It noted that the situation along the India-China border has remained peaceful.

There are a few areas along the border where there are differing perceptions of the Line of Actual Control. Both sides patrol up to their respective perceptions of LAC, it added.

The standoff at Charding-Ninglung Nallah (CNN) junction in eastern Ladakh due to the construction of a benign track and the constant raising of construction of a temporary operating base in Arunachal Pradesh by India were the only two instances where there was a major difference of opinion between the two sides.

"Compared to last year, the number of transgressions this year has considerably reduced. Concomitantly, the percentage of faceoffs/aggressive interactions during these transgressions has also reduced this year.

"Post Wuhan Summit, there has been an increase in the number of flag meetings. This may be attributed to the intent of resolving outstanding issues through discussions at various levels," the report said.

In 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had an "informal" summit meeting in central China's Wuhan city where they decided that peace and tranquillity will be maintained at the border.

Following the meeting, both governments have issued strategic guidance to their armies.

In last 9 months we got SiG 716 G2 , AK 203, Lapua .338 Lapua Sniper Rifle, .50 Cal Barrett sniper, MSMC orders, etc.

Totally opposite to your point. Infact SOF tri-command has been established.
my point is very limited and does not extend to entire IA's major procurements which are already in pipeline.

The tenders i am talking about are the ones at commander level, not the big orders like Sig 716, AK 203 and MSMC.These tenders do not cross purchases of more than 150 pieces of equipment ,from the each commander's 300 crore emergency purchase kitty. i am saying these small purchases have stopped. these emergency purchases are the ones which brought lapua and barret into front lines.

At Pokhran, Indian Army 'successfully' conducts trials anti-tank guided missile NAG
Completion of summer user trials will now pave the way for production and induction of the missile system into the Army.
New Delhi, PTI | Updated : 19 July 2019, 11:26 PM

The trials were carried out between July 7 and 18. (DRDO/Twitter)

The Indian Army "successfully" conducted trials of third generation anti-tank guided missile NAG at Pokhran firing ranges, paving the way for its induction. The trials were carried out between July 7 and 18. NAG missile has been developed to engage highly fortified enemy tanks in all weather conditions with day and night capabilities and with a minimum range of 500 metres and maximum range of four kilometres.

Completion of summer user trials will now pave the way for production and induction of the missile system into the Army.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated the user evaluation teams and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the successful completion of the trials, the ministry said.

Indigenously developed NAG – 3rd Generation Anti- Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) has successfully undergone series of user’s trails at Pokhran Field Firing Ranges. @PMOIndia @DefenceMinIndia @SpokespersonMoD @adgpi pic.twitter.com/UbDcDCpMjM

— DRDO (@DRDO_India) July 19, 2019
The missile is launched from the NAG missile carrier (NAMICA) which is capable of carrying up to six combat missiles. "The robust imaging algorithm has made the missile hit the target at four-kilometre distance even in severe summer desert conditions which is unique in its class," the defence ministry said.

As part of the NAG summer user trials, six missions were carried out under extreme temperature in Pokhran ranges.

"All the missiles have met the mission objectives including minimum range, maximum range, in direct attack as well as top attack modes and achieved a direct hit onto the target," said the ministry.

The missile system has already cleared the winter user trials in February.

"Government has already issued the acceptance of necessity for induction of NAG after user trials. All the ten missiles, which were fired during winter and summer trails, successfully hit the targets," the defence ministry said.

'Limit your online presence' or face 'exemplary' punishment, says Indian Army to personnel

The Indian Army has directed its personnel to limit their online presence and not forwarding or storing sensitive data on their electronic devices as part of a month-long cyber security exercise, reports the Print. In the communication that the headquarters sent out last week, the Army has issued certain instructions clarifying the basic rules of online behaviour that should be exercised by its personnel, or face “exemplary” punishment. A person from the Army told the outlet that the exercise began last week and will continue till mid-August.

As part of the drill, the Army will conduct surprise checks on its personnel and also punish those found violating norms – this, as one Army officer told the publication will make sure that personnel don’t fall prey to “inimical agencies and their devious designs”.

Instructions by the Army: ‘Keep your identity secret’
  • The Army has urged personnel not to store or forward sensitive data via electronic devices. It has also directed them to not accept friend requests from unknown people.
  • Troops should ensure that only known people should be added to social media groups, and avoid being part of large WhatsApp groups. They should also avoid opening unknown email links and suspicious websites.
  • Troops should refrain from posting pictures of themselves in uniform on the internet to keep their identity secret. They also need to check that they don’t give out any sensitive information while posting pictures online.
  • The Army also wants its troops to keep a check on their comments about the government on topics which can have a “subversive effect”.
An Army officer informed the outlet that following the instructions, several personnel have left groups on Facebook and WhatsApp. This report comes just days after the Home Ministry had advised government officials to not access social media on official devices unless permitted in its social media and internet policy for government employees. The ministry issued a 24-page note which also directed officials not to carry out classified work on computers connected to the internet.

The Good General is the New Vice Chief. FYI

https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/n...noj-naravane-appointed-vice-chief/806047.html

"Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane has been appointed as the next Vice-Chief of the Indian Army. He replaces Lt Gen D Anbu, who retires on August 31.

Lt Gen Naravane is the senior-most Army commander after the present Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat. He is in line to replace Gen Rawat, who retires December 31 this year. "

So 2 things can happen. Either he will be made Chief in December or he will continue as Vice Chief. Either way a good soldier is getting the right rank.

He has no experience in field. He is a career guy. Lt. Gen. Ranbir seems to be a better fit.

Could also be that Lt. Gen. Ranbir is close to Gen. D. S. Hooda (retd.) who is now firmly in the Congress camp? Anyway what are your thoughts on this?

Then why was he made to command India's largest field Command - the Eastern Army where there is nothing but field !!

Leave aside that, why should anyone even be made as a brigadier if one has no field exposure ? Indian Army discussed and considered something called "combat edge" for donkey's years but failed to decide on the issue.

Experience in field is an issue to be made a brigadier. Why at appointment of COAS level ??

Not a logical argument !!!!:crying:

The man has been in the field to a degree

He has commanded a Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir; an Infantry brigade; Assam Rifles in Northeast India as Inspector General (North); a Strike Corps; General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area; and 20th General Officer Commander-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Army Training Command (1 December 2017 - 30 September 2018). In addition, he was an instructor at the Army War College, Mhow and served as the Indian Defence Attache to Myanmar.[2][3][4] He was also the commander of the 2017 Republic Day parade.[5][6]

During his career, he has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2019),[7] Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2017), Sena Medal and Vishist Seva Medal(2015) for his service.[8][3][9]

From wiki

Lastly chief of Indian army has to be a bit more than an excemplary soldier and field commander. He has to be a politician , a diplomat , a master manager of Human resources CEO and a multidimensional strategist.

Anyways irrespective he now wears the number two headband ;)

Gen. Bipin Rawat has been an excellent army chief. His successor should match up or exceed his achievements.

Sure, agreed. All i am saying is that the General is no pencil pushing REMF. Also we only know his postings and not service record so there is no need to add mirch masala for no reason.
