NEW DELHI: In a bid to inject some much-needed synergy and integration amongArmyIAF
earlier in the year., the armed forces have now formulated a joint training doctrine after finalizing a newjoint war doctrine+

The 51-page "Joint Training Doctrine, Indian Armed Forces - 2017" was issued after being cleared by the chiefs of staff committee, comprising Admiral Sunil Lanba, Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa and Geneal Bipin Rawat, on Tuesday.

"The three Services fight the same war at the end of the day. So, there is the need to train together for it. This is the first time that such a keystone document has been promulgated. It brings out at the macro-level the approach to joint training, fundamentals, objectives, joint structures, planning and other aspects," said an officer.

The training doctrine flows from the "Joint Doctrine, Indian Armed Forces -2017"+ issued in April, which had stressed the need for the Army, Navy and IAF to plan and work together to effectively tackle the entire spectrum of conflict, ranging from full-blown conventional wars to irregular and hybrid warfare.

It also underlined that India needs to systematically prepare for the "emerging triad" of space, cyberspace and special operations in support of military operations, even as it builds an integrated land-air-sea war-fighting machinery, maintains credible nuclear deterrence and guards against unconventional threats, as was then reported by TOI.


But the government is yet to even approve the truncated tri-Service organizations proposed to handle the critical domains of space, cyberspace and special operations, instead of the full-fledged commands that were recommended earlier.


The country's higher defence management also requires major reforms, ranging from creation of the pivotal post of a tri-Service chief or chief of defence staff to the setting up of integrated theatre commands in the long run.


India has only two unified commands till now. While the Andaman and Nicobar Command was the first to be established as a theatre command in 2001, the Strategic Forces Command was created in 2003 to handle the country's nuclear arsenal. In sharp contrast, there are as many as 17 single-Service commands, with the Army and IAF having seven each, with the Navy having three.


China, incidentally, is developing robust military space and cyberspace capabilities, ranging from advanced ASAT (anti-satellite) and directed-energy laser weapons to cyber-weapons capable of crippling an adversary's information and other networks.

I have no idea if any such ammo exists. In case of Russia 79 mm (at 1 km) and Germany 110 mm (at unknown distance) what I am getting. Which can go 1000 mm RHAe at even 1 km?

Saudi prince vows new Islamic alliance 'will wipe out terrorists from earth'

Saudi Arabia's powerful crown prince vowed to "pursue terrorists until they are wiped from the face of the earth" as officials from 40 Muslim countries gathered Sunday in the first meeting of an Islamic counter-terrorism alliance.

"In past years, terrorism has been functioning in all of our countries ... with no coordination" among national authorities, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the Saudi defence minister, said in his keynote speech at the gathering in Riyadh.
"This ends today, with this alliance."

The summit is the first meeting of defence ministers and other senior officials from the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, which officially counts 41 countries and identifies as a "pan-Islamic unified front" against violent extremism.

The alliance was announced in 2015 under the auspices of Prince Mohammed, whose rapid ascent since his appointment as heir to the throne in June has shaken the political scene across the region.

The alliance groups largely, although not exclusively, Sunni-majority or Sunni-ruled countries.

It excludes Saudi Arabia's arch-rival, Shia-dominated Iran, as well as Syria and Iraq, whose leaders have close ties to Tehran.
Sunday's meeting coincides with an escalation in tensions between Riyadh and Tehran, particularly over wars in Syria and Yemen and the political structure of multi-confessional Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of supporting armed groups across the Middle East, including Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah and Yemen's Huthi rebels.

The meeting also comes as several military coalitions, with backers including both Iran and key Saudi ally the United States, battle to push the Islamic State group from its last remaining bastions in Iraq and Syria.

The alliance meeting in Riyadh brings together Muslim or Muslim-majority nations including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Uganda, Somalia, Mauritania, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen and Turkey.

Retired Pakistani general Raheel Sharif has been appointed commander-in-chief.

The alliance aims to "mobilise and coordinate the use of resources, facilitate the exchange of information and help member countries build their own counter-terrorism capacity," Sharif said.

While the alliance officially includes Qatar, which is the target of a six-month boycott led by Saudi Arabia, organisers in Riyadh said no Qatari officials were present at the meeting.

Qatar's flag was also absent.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain abruptly cut diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar in June, accusing the emirate of being too close to Iran and supporting Islamist extremism.

Qatar denies the allegations.

Egypt, which sent a military official and not its defence minister to the Sunday meeting, is reeling from a Friday attack on a mosque that killed more than 300 people during prayer time.

While IS has not claimed responsibility, Egyptian authorities say the organisation is the main suspect as the mosque is associated with followers of the mystical Sufi branch of Sunni Islam, whom IS has branded heretics.

Prince Mohammed said Friday's "painful event" was a reminder of the "danger of terrorism and extremism".

"Beyond the killing of innocent people and the spread of hatred, terrorism and extremism distort the image of our religion," he said.

Since his sudden appointment as crown prince, Prince Mohammed has moved to consolidate power, announcing crackdowns on both terrorism and corruption.

A corruption purge saw around 200 Saudi elites including princes, ministers and business tycoons arrested or sacked earlier this month.

Are the Arabs going to take action on these terror groups that are freely operating inside the Land of the Pure? Not a chance in hell.

Islamic Military Alliance is a MILITARY ALLIANCE, not a some joint exercise. Terrorism is a subjective term. One should use the proper identifier to make it meaningful. Stop using the word 'Terrorism' and start using the proper identifiers. There are different groups of militants with different motives.

Jihad is the duty of islam and jihad is the holy war.

Pakistan is the nation , nourishing them and calling as their Asset..

You are bringing media type words. Pakistan is a poor country which is incapable of providing food for its people. Pakistan just has a large population and nuclear power. Khilafat movement, armenia genocide, hyderabad razakkars, Palestine terrorism etc were not nurtured by Pakistan.

'Chennai Six' former British soldiers released after four years in Indian jail

Six former British soldiers working as part of a private security team protecting ships from piracy have been released from prison in India after serving four years for possessing weapons.

The "Chennai Six", who had all previously served in either the Parachute or Yorkshire Regiments, were acquitted on Monday and told by a judge to apply to get their passports returned, ending a long wait for them and their families in the UK.

Billy Irving, 37, Nick Dunn, 31, John Armstrong, 30, Nicholas Simpson, 47, Ray Tindall, 42, and Paul Towers, 54, were among 35 imprisoned in October 2013 while working as security on commercial ships to protect against pirates in the Indian Ocean.

They were jailed in 2013 along with 14 Estonian, 12 Indian and three Ukrainian colleagues when their vessel, the MV Seaman Guard Ohio, was boarded by the Indian Navy for entering its waters without permission. All the men worked for AdvanFort, a maritime security company.

Indian authorities found weapons and ammunition on board and the men were charged with possession of illegal firearms. Following an initial conviction the charges were quashed when the men argued they had the right permits and clearance for them as they were an anti-piracy unit.

But they they were later reconvicted when a lower court reinstated the charges, as the Indian justice system, both in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and nationally, moved their case between courts and judges.

Monday’s decision by the Madurai bench of the High Court in Chennai said the 35 crew members could now apply to get back their passports. Money spent on fines would also be reimbursed, the court ruled.

David McMullen, Coordinator for the 'Chennai6' Campaign, said: “Absolutely fantastic news. It was a bit of a blur for a second when I first heard. Having campaigned for so long and seen what the families have gone through it’s amazing we’ve finally got them free.”

On hearing the news at their family home in Britain, Yvonne McHugh, partner of Billy Irving said she was over the moon. “They’ve all been acquitted, all 35 of them,” she said. “We are just waiting to hear how soon they’ll be home. That’s the biggest hurdle we faced and all of them have been acquitted.”

Lisa Dunn, the sister of Nick Dunn, said: "The longer it went on, as much as you still have an element of hope, it does dwindle after having so many delays and setbacks. It will make all of our Christmases. All of our dreams have come true today."

Downing Street welcomed the decision. Theresa May's official spokesman said: "The Government, from the Prime Minister down, has worked hard for over four years to support the men and their families and we share their happiness at the court's decision to give a full acquittal to each of the men.

"We are now working with the Indian authorities to discuss the next steps. We will continue to offer the men and their families consular assistance for as long as it is needed."

Third Indo-UK joint military exercise next month

The third Indo-UK joint Army training exercise 'Ajeya Warrior' will be conducted in Rajasthan next month, a defence spokesman said today.

"A training exercise between the armies of India and the United Kingdom will be held from 1st to 14th December at the Mahajan Field Firing Range. It will be the third joint military exercise between the two countries," defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said.

The first exercise was conducted in 2013 at Belgaum, Karnataka, where as for the second exercise in 2015, an Indian Army contingent had visited the United Kingdom.

Approximately 120 personnel from the 20th Battalion of Rajputana Rifles and the 1st Battalion of Royal Anglican Regiment of the Royal British Army will participate in the exercise, Ojha said.

"The aim of the exercise is to build and promote bilateral relations and enhance interoperability while sharing experiences between the Royal British army and the Indian Army," he added.

20 Rajputana Rifles has extensive experience in counter- terrorist operations, while the 1st Battalion of Royal Anglican Regiment has been involved in combat operations across Afghanistan and Iraq
