Bipin Rawat

Chief of Army Staff designate Lt Gen Bipin Rawat will take over as 27th Chief of Army Staff on 1st January.Lt. General Bipin Rawat,AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM is son of Lt. Gen. L S Rawat and belongs to the famous 5th Battalion of 11th Gorkha Rifles.[1] He is new Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army.

Born in a Gadhwali Rajput family serving army since generations, on commissioning from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, where he was awarded the 'Sword of Honour' he joined the Battalion in Jan 1979 at ,Mizoram, in India. He commanded the battalion in field area, during his tenure the Battalion was adjudged as the best Battalion in NEFA. He also commanded a brigade in counter-insurgency area and another one in United Nations peacekeeping mission in Congo.

Lt Gen Bipin Rawat born in Pauri Garhwal, Uttrakhand. while commanding a Multinational Brigade in a Chapter VII mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) has had a truly outstanding tour. Within two weeks of deployment in the DRC, the Brigade faced a major offensive in the East which threatened not only the regional capital of North Kivu, Goma, but stability across the country as a whole. The situation demanded a rapid response and North Kivu Brigade was reinforced, where it was responsible for over 7,000 men and women representing nearly half of the total MONUC Force. Whilst simultaneously engaged in offensive kinetic operations against the CNDP and other armed groups, Brigadier Rawat (Now Lt Gen) carried out tactical support to the Congolese Army (FARDC), sensitization programmes with the local population and detailed coordination to ensure that all were informed about the situation and worked together in prosecuting operations whilst trying to protect the vulnerable population. This hectic period of operational tempo lasted a full four months and during this time Brigadier (Now Lt Gen) Rawat, his Headquarters and his international Brigade, were tested to the full, across the operational spectrum. His personal leadership, courage and experience were pivotal to the success that the Brigade achieved. Goma never fell, the East stabilized and the main armed group was motivated to the negotiating table and has since been integrated into the FARDC.

He was also tasked to present the Revised Charter of Peace Enforcement to the Special Representatives of the Secretary General and Force Commanders of all the UN missions in a special conference at Wilton Park, London on 16 May 2009.

For his truly exceptional performance within MONUC the officer was awarded the Force Commanders Commendation.

Academically inclined, he has authored numerous articles on ‘National Security’ and ‘Leadership’ which have been published in various journals and publications. He has successfully completed M. Phil in Defence and Management Studies from Devi Ahilya University, Indore; and Strategic and Defence Studies from Madras University. He has a Diploma in Management and another Diploma in Computer Studies. Lt Gen Bipin Rawat has also completed his research on military media strategic studies and was awarded Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph. d) from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut in 2011.[2] caste of bipin rawat sir

The Definition of MOUT calls for Troops to ingress a AO on Vehicles. Dismount to Set up perimeter, Search and Cordon.

You cant do it from inside an APC.

Seriously....never heard of M1128 stryker...us troops went on search from door to door and set perimeters while moving in Strykers...I'm saying is moving soldiers in open will attract ambushes

Okay -

1. The United States Military WAS NOT deployed on its own soil. They were/are fighting a war which had an Insurgency molded into it. Their ROE's are completely different. Compare to british action in NI
2. The Urban road network in Kashmir does not ALLOW for a vehicle the size of Stryker to be deployed effectively in all parts to provide fire support to Dismounted Troops
3. BMP's do get deployed in the Valley but are limited by ROE and Terrain.
4. Please dont compare apples to oranges. The Indian COIN doctrine built around Light Infantry (COIN) - RR - and Border Control (artillery) has been an extremely successful strategy. Every time Americans fart does not mean we need to replicate it.
5. WE ARE STILL A POOR COUNTRY. we cant afford the cost of Running strykers up and down the valley 24x7 year after year.
6. Lets not comment on IA deployment strategies based on a couple of Press Pictures we see on the internet.
7. Lastly- Americans with their fancy kit (strikers, Night Raids, Drones) have been getting ambushed plenty over the past 15 years.

I am not a serving member of the forces
But let me ask you one thing

When did the word tatic become fancy

The us army have not faught a home battle since the civil war in the 1800's

Fighting in one's backyard is different to fighting in an others front yard

USMILOPS have always been international in nature
And besides the US uses its marine corps to do most of its fighting more so than its army
Kashmir is our territory that we are fighting a low to medium level externally supported insurgency in which the the OpFor is also our people turned against us

Time and again many global military operations that were conducted in urban or sub urban area has taught us again and again that light is the way to go

As for the former units of the British Indian Army northern command they are kust feeding their ego thats all

Some times its best to disperse and engage rather bottle-up inside an Armored vehicle, Specially in-case of an Ambush, Its not really hard to find about why so, Just google about anti ambushes tactics..

Our Army use MPV so does IFV in CT environment, Depend upon situation for last ..

None of them are "beast" . I can see several of them are modification of the Junk M 113 APC and Chinese Type 63 APC.


Also, most of them are not good enough for a strong Mechanize infantry force. Pakis don't have a dedicated Mechanize infantry to begin with.

Though BMP 2 currently the backbone of our Mechanize infantry is old but far better than these junks both in Armor,Firepower, Amphibious capability and NBC protection.

They are using everything they can find

This however is true. On personal level their troops are better equipped than us thanks to WOT and uncle Chen.

Not only that they are able to construct good infrastructure on LOC. Seen some of the pics of their equipment and Bunkers over LOC.

But we are still superior in surveillance, intel capabilities, Radars, better pay and service conditions and off course the advantage of manpower against Pakis.

@Kunal Biswas @Bornubus Regarding the vehicles that are targeted by terrorists, how many exits do they have?
It might be worthwhile for non armored transport to have multiple exits in different directions allowing the troops to disembark safely and return fire.
Or is the truth different?
