well debka may be wrong source, but why would Turkey be ready to help Hamas

Turkey to Challenge Israel, Support Hamas

Turkey is planning a gesture that will challenge Israel and provide support to Gaza's Hamas leaders next month. A flotilla of ships funded by Turkey will approach Gaza in May, in an attempt to challenge Israeli control at sea - or, as organizers put it, "break Israel's illegal blockade on Gaza."

While residents of Gaza have access to the sea, the Israel Navy prevents travel by sea between Gaza and surrounding countries, in an attempt to prevent weapons smuggling. Gaza terrorists have previously used incoming ships to smuggle arms, and have used the sea to transport bombs to the coast of southern Israel.

The ships are sponsored by the Turkish group IHH (Insani Yardim Vakfi), which receives government support. IHH also held a massive fundraiser to collect the more than $2 million it spent on the boats.

There is a dynamic shift taking place in the middle east. IMO Turkey is trying to neutralise the moves by Iran and Syria. It is all about positioning and leadership. India will have to be very careful as Turkey can be a source of Hi Tech weapons for Pakistan.

Because Israel is ready to recognise Armenian genocide. Turks do all sorts of stupid things when anyone brings up that topic.

Very unfortunate to see a progressive and moderate country like Turkey resort to such lows all of a sudden. Considering the current leadership in Ankara, I or infact any Indian could care less what social structure Mr. Erdogan wants in his country as Turkish culture is more rooted in Islamic values. However, interfering in other's bilateral matters such as Israel and militant organizations like Hamas is wrong. Turkish government should take every measure to curb any potential rise of Al Qaeda like mentality in their otherwise beautiful country.

I believe Israel has made an excellent decision and has taken the courage to shut advanced supplies to Turkey, which I am sure in some way has something to do with India. Perhaps it might have been a behind-the-curtains request from Indian government not to supply the missile to Ankara considering the hefty investment the Navy has made.

Indo-Israeli missile successfully test-fired: DRDO chief

Indo-Israeli missile successfully test-fired: DRDO chief: India Today - Latest Breaking News from India, World, Business, Cricket, Sports, Bollywood.

The Indo-Israeli Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LR-SAM) was successfully test fired in Israel last fortnight. "The 70-km missile was fired at an electronic target and met with its initial objectives," DRDO chief Dr Vijay Saraswat said in an exclusive interview with India Today.

The second test of the missile will be held in India sometime later this year. The missile will be integrated by Indian technicians. The LR-SAM area defence missile is being jointly developed by India and Israel under a Rs 2500 crore project which began in 2006. The missile, also called the Barak-2 are to equip the three guided missile destroyers of the Project 15A class. The three destroyers are to join the Indian navy in one year intervals beginning in 2012.

"We will deliver the system to the armed forces in 2013. I am very confident it will be an astounding success," Dr Saraswat said. A second variant, called the Medium Range SAM (MR-SAM) is being developed for the Indian Air Force under a Rs 10,000 crore project signed in 2009. The MR-SAM is to replace all the IAF's ageing Soviet-made Pechora SAM missiles. According to naval officials, a 100-km range theatre defence version called the Extended Range SAM is being developed for the four Project 15B destroyers.

LF, this is mainly for the ship protection, dont worry about the Aakash, it will be mainstay and this will be elite strike ones. Moreover Aakash-II will be just 60Kms, this baddy is 100Kms

LF: SAM like Akash and SA- 6 with passive guidance have their own advantages. Following video illustrates.

What will be so special about a longer range Akash ?

1. Where does it say that this missile will only be for ship protection ?
2. Any source which says "Akash" is our or will be our mainstay ?
3. Do you understand the concept of air defence ?
4. Any source which gives the ranges ?

Please look up the relevant threads and find that you are wrong in all counts.

A SAM's job is to take down aerial objects. And SA-6 on which Akash is based is a 40 year old missile. Technology has progressed since then.

Akash 2 will incorporate rajendra AESA radar the range the tracking and the accuracy should be much better, it is a completely different missile from Akash. If you can shoot down enemy planes further out the better, in case you are not successful other systems can serve as back up like IGLA'S, SPYDER etc..

Hopefully the longer range Akash will be a completely new missile for the reasons you gave.
Why should we have 2 "brand new" missiles of the same class ?
Akash, as it is, in a longer range avatar can be useful in some cases, though.

I agree we don't need a longer and shorter range Akash, keeping the longer ranger version would be just fine. Unless we plan on exporting then we can export the shorter range one and keep the longer range one.

Yet this example is only 10 years old. Akash is based on SA-6, true, but it is better than SA-6 and with AESA radar guidance it will remain descent in years to come.

I am not getting into how much better Akash is to its Russian counterpart. Akash is a short range SAM/AD missile, the current radars are more than good enough.

1. This is mainly for the ship defense, because LR-SAM will be mainly used for the ship protection and please take a look at the main post.

2. If not, the MoD is a ****** to allow the funds for the mk-II and sales of nearly $1.3B is a crappy??

3. Yes, i well do understand the concept

4. For Aakash or Barak?
Aakash these are speculation around, i may be wrong; but barak there is in the source please check that again.

Aakash is a missile with passive seeker, where as Barak is not, both are of different classes, dont compare with the range alone. Do some more analysis please...
