197 RSH deal in process: MoD. It seems they are hell bent towards awarding it to Eurocopter.

Fully agree. 197 additional Dhruvs + 127 HAL LOHs wud be enough to replace Cheetahs and Chetaks of our AFs.

IMHO, I dont think LOH even needed, New design such as Dhruv out preform all others in all parameters then why we are still asking for old design ?

Its logical to use a Single design from multi- purpose ops to reduce logistics and ease training for pilots..

The LUH tender and even LOH is waste of time and resources..

NEW DELHI: Government has decided to allow the Army to have its own heavy duty attack helicopter fleet, Defence Minister A K Antony said today.

"Yes... the decision to vest the future inductions of attack helicopters with the Army has been taken keeping in view the operational requirements in the field," Antony told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The force plans to deploy these assets in its three Strike Corps and ten Pivot corps along the western, northern and north eastern borders of the country.

Been thinking about this for quite some time now...

Specially with the substantial lack of latest field guns and Infantry support vehicles, I was thinking as the following 2 gunships under Indian Army Aviation Wing for close air support, air interdiction and force protection.

The costly option: AC-130U Spooky

The cheaper, durable & unique option: A-10C Thunderbolt II (PE)

The IAF will never let IA fly them.

If the problem is lack of latest field guns and Infantry support vehicles, the solution is getting latest field guns and Infantry support vehicles, not aircraft.

There are certain limitations..

On mountain most field guns have to be lighter like 105mm guns and M777 and they lack range and some places due to rarity of Air the Shells wont be preforming as they should, In such conditions if one require long range hi-precision strike, that have to be air-power..

If the problem is lack of latest field guns and Infantry support vehicles, the solution is getting latest field guns and Infantry support vehicles, not aircraft.

Let's see some Sukhoi-25 Frogfoot planes in action:

Russian planes carry out air raids on Mujahideen trying to create trouble in Tajikistan. This gives us an idea what the Soviet-Mujahideen war might have been like.

@Akim, what is 461 ShAP?

This plane is a beauty its cheap, sturdy and if only we did not went for the Mig-27 but instead Su-25 we would still have a potent aircraft well suited for CSD.

Something like this is useful in mountains, deserts its a ubiquitous flying tank.
