Glad to hear, the M777 purchase in back on track. I think we need to order atleast 1000+ with a considerable number of them made in India under TOT. We should also get our hands on the Excalibur rounds as well, we should also order a few million of those rounds also with tot and local manufacture. Or develope our own gps guided munition. 2012 for the home made 155 gun is a challenge but all is well when there's a will.
Its not at all a challenge, 3-4 months back the order was given for these guns, And they are ready now..

45CAL is not very different form 52cal, Both guns deliver more or less same..

OFB to develop 155mm artillery guns for the Indian Army

The country's only manufacturer of large caliber guns, the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) has been approved to develop 155 mm artillery guns by the Indian Army. "Somewhere in October 2011, OFB had received the mandate to develop 155 mm caliber artillery gun by the Army," informed RK Tiwari, PRO of the Gun Carriage Factory at Jabalpur, on a query from Frontier India.

"There will be 2 prototypes of the gun and is scheduled to be delivered by December 2012. The guns will be of caliber 155 mm 39 caliber and 155 mm 45 caliber," he said.Regarding the participation of private sector in the project, RK Tiwari said "we are working on 3 areas. The first is the inhouse development, which is being carried out now. The OFB Headquarter is working on the tie-ups from Indian industries. The third is the user itself, which has the long experience with the 155 mm gun. OFB has been manufacturing various facets of the 155mm gun and it is confident of the project."On the question of the specifications of the guns, the spokesman said that the final specs will be frozen by June 2012.Asked if the guns will borrow from the Bofors design, the spokesman said "once you have the guns, you have the designs. There was no Transfer of Technology (ToT) for whatever the reasons. We will not be borrowing from anyone. Our design will be based on our capabilities and users requirements. We have experience in the large caliber guns and we intend to use it and innovate. Once we have the gun, we will offer it for the user trials and the users will decide on the outcome."

Every one knows why M777 was not liked by Army..

The auto Loading nor the crane also no SP was there, And how it can be if once want to make it lighter, that`s why it is approved, though pegasus offered all these..

Also the 39cal guns will be deigned to be lighter, Coz 39cal barrel is shorter and lighter than 45 and 52 cal..

45 cal will offer good hitting power till 40kms and with rocket assisted 55-56km which is same as 52cal..

A 52cal gun is a meter longer than a 45cal gun in length..

52cal gun with ordinary ammo is
19 km (12 mi) (with M107), Where as 45cal gun with ordinary ammo is 18 kms ( With M107 )

Both Guns with Special ammo:

41,600 m (Extended range full-bore-base)
52-56,000 m (BB+RAP extended range)

Their will be slight difference but more or less same..

Defence lab aims to make SPGH

Source: :: Bharat-Rakshak.com - Indian Military News Headlines ::

After acquiring Bofors guns in 1986, the country is yet to develop self-propelled artillery for combat. The Avadi-based Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) is looking forward to 2012 as a prospective year for forging partnership to develop an area destruction weapon that would complement the point specific Arjun Tank-II.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Jan. 1 — celebrated as Defence Research and Development Organisation day — DRDO's flagship laboratory CVRDE's director Dr P. Siva Kumar said that the lab is involved in development of armoured fighting vehicles. The tank-making division is anticipating a positive development in outsourcing technology for the turret, a rotating weapons platform, to produce self-propelled guns in India.

"We were to go for production of a 155 mm self-propelled Howitzer variant of the Arjun, labelled Bhima in 2000, but for some reason it was stopped. Now, the technical evaluation is going on in procuring technology for turret to go with the chassis of Arjun and we hope it will materialise in 2012," he said, adding the contract indent cost is expected to be about Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 crore.Explaining that the Arjun tank is a weapon against point specific targets, Mr Kumar said, the area destruction weapon would help hit a target even at 45 kms.

I told before, Saw this coming long ago in 2010, Anyway they think of this now, At least they are going, We will have out 155MM of 45cal SPGH within 2012..

Rebirth of BHIM self-propelled howitzer

Rebirth of BHIM self-propelled howitzer | idrw.org

DRDO is all set to dust off and review BHIM self-propelled howitzer Project once again:thumb:. After 11 years been in storage, due to ban imposed on Denel company which was accused of paying bribes and it's SPH was dropped from consideration.DRDO had successfully had integrated 155-mm / L52 howitzer T6 turret, developed by Denel of South Africa with Indian made Arjun tank chassis . After corruption controversy which came to lime light in 2005, DRDO again send Request for proposal (RFP) in 2007 .but only Samsung Techwin responded to the proposal with their K-9 gun.
Project was left with single vendor proposal, hence another RPF was re-issued after considerable break to make sure that RPF attracts more proposal and it has been rumoured that SWS Bofors, Nextel, Samsung Techwin along with Soltham have responded to RPF issued by DRDO for the replacement gun, and DRDO after going through their proposal and technical evaluation is been done and will be integrating one of their gun with Arjun MBT chassis soon.
In 1999-2000 Indian army had conducted successful trails of the gun with Arjun chassis and Denel also had successfully demonstrated their own T-72 based howitzer in India for Indian army.Indian army had requirement of 400 mounted 155-mm / L52 howitzer, out of which 200 could be based on Arjun chassis and another 200 to be mounted on modified TATRA trucks. Decision on selection of the gun will take place this year.
Cancellation of the project had effected Production and procurement of materials for Arjun MBT, since Indian army had only placed orders for 128 tanks at that time and 200 orders for BHIM could have lead to continues production run at Avadi . This currently has been halted since CVRDE almost completed 128 tanks ordered by Indian Army. Indian army did placed further orders of 128 Arjun MK-2 variant, but the production will only start after summer user trials are completed by Indian army.
