This is a surprise for me as they said the plan is dropped and here they suddenly say that everything is on track and tommorow they will even say that INDIA has an ICBM with MIRV's. After all this is INDIA and no one can expect what the INDIANS may do and when they might do ?
I say it can only happen in India, about the bold part i see it coming, but we have part of it already.

Iirc our esteemed Defence Minister in a statement to the LS had said that there was no shortage of artillery with the IA, then why do why do we need these guns. Is it a case of misleading the parliament or poor homework by the minister.

the esteemed Defence Minister spoke through the MoD Babu Draft who counted the numbers of 2 inch mortars and 25 pounders and came to the conclusion that there is no deficiency of Artillery in India.

He did not say that there is no deficiency in Artillery to attain the mission fulfilment objectives. He said about numbers which include water supply tubes to be counted as artillery.

What jokers these MoD goons are that they hold the country in such low esteem that they can utter anything as reply to a parliamentary question.

Would someone ask the minister following questions.

If the Artillery was adequate why The Defence Acquisitions Council (DAC) of MoD had earlier approved the procurement of 1,580 guns in 2007?

Why The DAC had also approved the procurement of 145 light-weight towed 155mm, 39-calibre howitzers in 2006 and an RFP was issued to ten global vendors in 2008 ?

Why OFB has now been asked by MoD to build six prototypes of Bofors Howitzers within 18 months ?

Because IA have many more 105mm Guns at storage, And that is what counted.....

105mm are good but when used against enemy arty they are out range, 105mm range is not more than 17kms..

What IA needed is to have a arty piece which have minimum 35km -40km range..

Bigger and faster rounds have more probability of inflecting maximum damage to Bunker and dug in positions..

155mm/52cal is what IA looking for since 80s through RFIs and till today we are only blacklisting major companies but not Babus..

OFB 155mm/45cal upgrade was liked by IA and this upgrade is going for 130mm/46cal and 155mm/39cal in IA..

122mm are Very much active..

Most Guns in Red are now a showpiece in major cantonments or at junkyard as their spares are no longer available, though 75/88 IFG are use for training..

We have 120mm SP ? never seen or heard..

I did not know that! Thanks ! I only said it is a useless piece as compared to requirement of battlefield artillery.
Its better than OFB 105mm in range but OFB 105 advantage is it lighter and compact and portable to high altitudes..

Better than 105 in Calibre only but 15 km range less than OFB 105mm. It is essentially an anti tank How rather than an artillery piece capable of direct fire with HEAT etc.

Its Range is 21km most for 122mm D-30..

OFB 105 can fire 105 HEAT if available..
