Kalyani group's gun the Bharat-155 gun they presented Soltam made ATHOS 2052 in 52 caliber itself. Kalyani simply changed the label..

It is essentially ' Made in India ' product rather 'Made by India' product.

ATHOS 2052, the only difference the Kalyani gun has is with the muzzle brake and recoil, rest everything is Soltam design ..

Kalyani .co` bharat 155mm x 52cal gun

Is BHARAT-52 a truly Indigenous product ? OR its a just manufactured in India from TOT from abroad ?

Its the updated version of GHN-45. Kalyani acquired Noricum and brought the entire setup to India.

This could be is misleading, Following points ..

1. Gun Canada design is with 45cal and never was 52cal, Upgraded version never existed to copy from under bull administration ..
2. Kalyani ties are with sol tam from beginning, Which is even now existed ..
3. The gun presented has very less similarities with GC-45 but more with Athos 52cal ..

This was discussed some time back here >>

Your pic of Kalyani's Bharat-52

Soltam - 2052

Third one is clearly different. This has been discussed plenty of times that Bharat Forge has acquired the Austrian firm Noricum which license produced a version GC-45. This is 52 cal version of the same gun.

The photo was taken during 2012 defexpo, It is clearly GC-45 with APU and has identical muzzle brake and recoil, Kalyani is also showing 155/45 upgrade of M-46 guns with Soltam.

Though it is highly possible that Kalyani could have assistance from Soltam to mount a upgraded gun of similar design ..

Both have identical breach and feeding mechanism, Thanks for pointing it out @blueblood ..

Kunal Biwas and blueblood see different guns in similar pictures.

Kunal's is guessing that it is a Soltam gun. "blueblood" thinks it is a Gerald Bull's gun design.

If the Kalyani have relocated a whole factory of gun making from Europe to India, my logic would be that Kalyani gun is not an Israeli design. Israelis would prefer to sell their own home made gun barrels, recoil and everything else. Since Kalyani has acquired the manufacturing techniques, they would not like to get these items from Israel at roughly double the price.

Now the question you may ask - why would Kalyani go for Soltam or Bull design. They would go the best who makes a better deal. Requirement of these guns is huge, hence other gun makers will be willing to sell their design and help India make them from zero/zero to a full gun. It may then turn out to be "made by India".

Are these two guns same?

There is an apparent similarity because both have an oblique hydraulic shock absorber and the cradle. However, a close inspection will reveal that the equilibrator in the former appears to be forged, while in the latter, it appears to be fabricated. In the latter, the barrel has what looks like an expansion chamber, but this is probably due to the caliber. The latter also seems to have a sophisticated sighting system.

I am not comparing the bottom carriage, wheels, mud guards, spade, and the lunette.

It is possible that they might share common parts, but I don't think they are the same.

Kalyani Group's 'big gun' plans forge ahead

By SP's Special Correspondent

February 17, 2014: The Baba N. Kalyani-promoted Kalyani Group has managed to grab the attention of the Indian Army in a big way following its showing at the recent Defexpo show.

SP's can confirm that the company has a series of follow-on meetings with the Army over the next two-three weeks to fine-tune possible cooperation, as well as to discuss certain new unspecified requirements. The Indian Army will be doing this with other companies too, including L&T and Tata.

Interest in the private sector's capability in the field of artillery weapons is at an all-time high. Most prominent among the Kalyani Group's offerings this year was Bharat-52 155mm/52cal towed gun, that will be among the contenders for long-delayed Army requirements. Apart from the 'Project Karan' of the 130mm M46 guns to a 155mm/45cal standard, the other products being discussed included the Ultra-light Long-range howitzer (155mm/39cal) that the Kalyani Group proposes to develop and build in collaboration with U.S. firm Mandus.

The future programme, based on soft recoil technology envisages a 4500 kg gun with an assisted/unassisted range of 22.4/30 km, with an intense rate of fire of 4 rounds per minute for 3 minutes. Finally, the Army has also expressed interest in the Garuda 105 ultra-light field gun, which the Kalyani Group has called a 'paradigm shift in close support'. Once again in collaboration with Mandus, the platform is based on the 105mm Indian field gun (IFG), incorporates soft recoil technology, digital fire control, based on an all terrain vehicle with mountainous terrain manoeuverability, and adaptable for fitment on any current in-service vehicle.
