Don't wanna whine a lot but there seems to be a huge short sightedness on how we're moving forward in most of the fields

This is German Boxer Armoured Vehicle, in service with 5-7 nation

Looks quite like our WhAP right? 8x8, a single RWS...except you can lift the rear portion of the vehicle (called Boxer Mission Module) and swap it with something else in less than 15 minutes under field condition.
You've almost 20 different Mission Module to choose from. Some of them...

Fun fact : The vehicle needed to do a swap is also a Boxer Mission Module instead of some specialized vehicle

Was curious about the SP 155 mm Howitzer version. And I must say I am not disappointed.

The turret looks comically oversized compared to the chassis thought. Wouldn't it put a lot of pressure on the suspension of the last 2 wheels when it fires. 🤔

Anyways very nice concept. We should definitely take WHAP development in this direction in future.

Yup, the turret is tall enough to imbalance the centre of gravity of the whole vehicle. But practically it won't be that big of an issue as the heavier shells are stored in the bottom part and only lighter propellant is in top.

As for pressure on suspension, Rheinmetall claims it's not more than that of driving on a rough terrain. Don't know how much's true

Actually "mission module swapping" idea rarely tends to be practical. Good talking point, but better design is to use same base and modify as little parts as necessary.

Untill a vehicle gets damaged and you need to salvage it. Definitely I'd agree with you that it sounds bit gimmicky like some 10 years ago everyone was running behind a modular rifle that can do everything...but it certainly has some benefits.

12 artillery module fires at enemy defences while 6 AD module provides defence in initial phase. Later 6 artillery and 2 AD of those same vehicles can be swapped for IFV/APC module when you'll go for an assault.

Definitely, it provides some flexibility to the force.

But it has to be balanced against higher cost, less optimal design to accommodate those changes, as well as the questionable need of that degree of flexibility in most cases.

TLDR, not saying its a bad design, just pointing out that the same logistical freedom can be achieved without going the full swappable route, perhaps for a better end result.

Without fighting wars, we will never learn. As heartless as that sounds coming from someone in a military family, it seems that the only way to harden up our forces is to get involved in serious conflicts.

I wonder if WhAP could be deployed on UNPKF missions in Africa for testing - Armado did and the data collected was valuable.

Can't agree more. Sometimes a slap becomes necessary to wake someone; our SWAT saw a radical improvement after 26/11, we started taking high altitude warfare seriously after conflict with China, Poland modernized it's military after witnessing Ukraine getting invaded...

But then again it would be almost useless to test our vehicle in a small intensity COIN ops when ultimately it's designed for LSCO

Can't comment on the price part Saar, it's very tough to estimate the per unit cost of a defence equipment.

As for less optimal design to accommodate modularity; I can't find much of it. After comparing it with all the contemporaries it came almost close to everything else; be it dimensions or weight or power to weight. The only noticable difference I could spot was one less troop capacity. Most such vehicles have a 3+9 capacity, whereas it's 3+8 in Boxer. But then again Boxer provides slightly better protection than others as both the modules and vehicle itself is individually armoured.

As for the questionable application of a modular armoured vehicles goes I think it's simply the fact that we're still not used to this idea. For a very long time we used to have all kinds of different ground attack, deep penetration, interceptor, nuclear attack, fighters...but with time we have either completely replaced them with just one modular multirole air-superiority fighter or will soon do. And now for us it has become so normal that we don't even mention it. Now if someone says that Rafale can't do SEAD/DEAD mission then it seems more weird than if someone had said some 50 years back that F-16 would eventually do everything.
It'll take time for people to fully exploit the potential, but sooner or later we'll see more and more such modular platforms popping up

The vehicle looks very cramped and in my opinion the doors needs to be little more reinforced, radiator and engine area looks to be very vulnerable. The cargo space in the back is also very negligible. I thought Mahindra when designing a vehicle like LSV would built a vehicle closer to dimensions found in internationally used light tactical utility vehicles like AM General Humvee or Renault Sherpa.

Did't find a suitable thread so posting it here.

Not armoured vehicles but utility.

Indian army is currently purchasing 7 different types of utility vehicle 😊😭

Orders are mostly in single digit , probably some officers want to personally ride them

Mahindra aslv is heavily based on Israeli AXE LSV.

Indian army to get and deploy AATV Articulated All-Terrain Vehicles along Line of Actual Control
According to Mayank Singh in the New Indian Express, the procurement of 18 Articulated All-Terrain Vehicles (AATV) for mobility and carrying mounted artillery guns to be deployed along the northern borders is under process.

The procurement of 18 Articulated All-Terrain Vehicles (AATV) for mobility and carrying mounted artillery guns to be deployed along the northern borders is under process, Mayank Singh reports. As per requirements projected in March 2022, the Articulated All-Terrain Vehicle (AATV) should be capable to operate up to 18,000 feet in High Altitude Areas (Glaciated and Snowbound) and marshy terrain (salt waste dry/wet) in plains. Twelve have to be sent to Ladakh and 6 to Gujarat.

As earlier reported by the New Indian Express, the Indian Army is set to get stronger firepower along its northern borders with China. Authorities have issued a Request For Information (RFI) to procure mounted (self-propelled) 105mm/37 caliber mounted gun systems. As per the RFI issued by the Indian Army on April 29, the field regiments will be equipped with mounted gun systems.
