Pannu Affair - Recent overheating of it.
Now Pannu affair is back to mess up relations between India and U.S.
No damage happened to nobody, hence this affair is manufactured to tame India from buying cheap Russian oil. As per last reports, India saved $7.5 billion by buying Russian oil last year. How could India miss that opportunity?
US tried all diplomatic means to persuade India against buying cheap oil. These did not work.
Then it boiled down to bad diplomatic moves to corner India and that turned out be Pannu Affair. This is where, US is pulling all the diplomatic punches. They know that India is economically weak and dependent on economic break thru on America. India needs $100 billion a year FDI and technical help to manufacture world class items and economic progress.
In addition, India has unwittingly made itself dependent on high end military supplies (MQ-9 and GE fighter Enginers for LCA) on USA. On paper these deals are done but US can put a stop on these supply any time and sabotage all Indian military plans. Trickery situation.
The much publicized Pannu Affair is the road block. In real terms, it is usually ignored, but when a stronger nation wish to deliver a strong message it will use minor affairs as a prop.
Does it look like that India could get out of this situation? It is highly unlikely. There is a few possibilities which could favour Indian position. For example, Biden looses elections and the whole of his unfriendly administration gets replaced Or America suffers a catastrophic loss in Ukraine and they are left with no alternative but Invite countries like India to supervise an armistice in Ukraine. The third possibility is that China invades Taiwan and a war in Pacific begins. Then they will need friends like India.
The situation at the moment is grim. India has very few options left.
