India tested K-5 SLBM. India now capable of launching Nukes by Land, Air and Sea.

Update:

6000 Km max range.

Will be integrated into Arihant ?

14th launch. :cool2:

Lifted off from submarine platform ? after one hour countdown from undisclosed location?

Followed exact predicted trajectory and hit the target accurately, as witnessed by the reporter himself on radar.

Many unique features which can not be disclosed :thumb:.

It would be important to know if its fired from a Submarine or under water pontoon, would hate if from later

IIRC, some official had said that the next rest will be from a sub and not a pontoon. We had a discussion here speculating either there could be a test from the Arihant itself which validates both the Arihants integration as well as the technology of the missile.

IF it was fired from another sub, then it means A LOT MORE than just final missile. It means India has modified more subs capable of launching a nuke missile and we don't have to rely only on the Arihant. May be the Kilos have been modified. That is wonderful news all round.

January 27, 2013:
India today launched a medium-range K-5 missile from an underwater platform in Bay of Bengal.

According to DRDO chief V.K. Saraswat, the missile is ready for deployment in platforms including nuclear submarine INS Arihant, which is under development in India.

@Yusuf , change the title of this thread to K-5 SLBM tested and ready to be deployed :D

They keep changing the name, K-5 = Medium Range ~ 3000Km to 5000Km (?) :D depending on the payload.

So in essence it is K-4 rechristened as K-5?

or maybe K-4 Mk II(wiki)

In December it was reported that K-15 will be test fired soon and will be final development trial after which it will be deployed operational. But PTI reporting "median range K-5 test fired and ready to be deployed on Arihant".

I think DRDO wala's are playing with intelligence of people here, noobs.

Time to change the thread title again. The missile is named BO-5.

India test fires missile from under sea, completes nuclear triad
Edited by Pallava Bagla | Updated: January 27, 2013 17:18 IST

Bay of Bengal: After a smooth countdown at 1.40 pm today, India's missile, named BO5, emerged effortlessly breaking the balmy waters of the Bay of Bengal. The missile was launched from an approximate depth of about 50 metres, simulating exactly the conditions as would prevail during an operational launch from India's indigenously made nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant. The missile whose name has been variously given as Sagarika or at times K-15 or even Dhanush has finally been christened as BO5 and is a medium-range ballistic missile.

After emerging from the water, the missile followed a copy book track of its trajectory and hit its target about six minutes after launch in a very precise manner. The trajectory was tracked using several cameras and radars specially deputed for this launch.

This is the fourteenth consecutively successful launch of this potent weapons system which has till now always been done in complete secrecy. This was the last developmental launch and now the weapons system is ready to be integrated with the Indian submarines, says AK Chakrabarty, the man who designed and perfected this naval missile system and is also the director of the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad. He spoke exclusively to NDTV on board the ship which controls the missile launch. This sophisticated technology has been mastered only by the USA, Russia, France and China. India has now joined this select club of five, and has now completed what is called the nuclear triad, which essentially gives India the capability to launch at will its nuclear weapons from air, land and sea.

The indigenously made missile has been perfected after more than 15 years of development by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Mr Chakrabarty, who had tears of joy in his eyes, described the mission as "perfect and could not have been any better."

A young team of about 200 DRDO scientists and personnel from the Navy and a flotilla of ships took part in today's mission. The NDTV team of Pallava Bagla and Alphonse Raj were the only journalists allowed to witness the launch live from the middle of the Bay of Bengal.

Re: India successfully tests submarine launched ballistic missile

The report by NDTV makes no sense to me. Either this is a new missile or K15 Sagarika. The name K15 was given by the DRDO itself. BO5 is not even a name to "rechristian".

Kuch to golmaal hai bhai.

6 mins of flight time gives us some clue about the range. It's definitely not 700 kms.

NDTV report suggests that the missile was fired from a pontoon. Another point to pick up is that it said the missile is ready to be fired from Indian "submarines". When they say "submarines" are they talking of future or are they saying that this missile can be fired from current Indian subs? Which means one of the Kilos? Could India have modified this sub for a nuke missile? I don't think so but these various reports confuses me. Well maybe that's what they intend to do. Confuse!

Re: India successfully tests submarine launched ballistic missile

More confusion . Sarasvat says K-5. But again notice that he says it can be fired from various platforms including Arihant. What other platforms if this is an SLBM?

======"¢==

NEW DELHI: Moving a step closer to completing its nuclear triad, India today successfully test fired a ballistic missile, with a strike range of around 1500 kilometres, from an underwater platform in Bay of Bengal.

"The medium range K-5 ballistic missile was test fired successfully today from an underwater pontoon and all parameters of the test firing were met," DRDO chief V K Saraswat told PTI from the undisclosed test area.

Nuclear triad is the ability to fire nuclear-tipped missiles from land, air and sea.

Saraswat said that the development phase of the K-5 missile, which is a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), was over and it was now ready for deployment on various platforms including the indigenous nuclear submarine INS Arihant which is under development.

Re: India successfully tests submarine launched ballistic missile

Speed of sound = 343.2m/s

Hypersonic = minimum Mach6 = 2059.2m/s

6 min = 360s

So it flew a minimum distance of 741312m = 741.3Km

:hmm:
