Russia, India Complete Joint Military Drills Indra-2014: Southern Military District

MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) - Joint Russian-Indian military drills Indra-2014 have been completed in Russia's Volgograd Region on Thursday, the Russian Southern Military District's press service said Friday. "The international exercise Indra-2014 has been completed. On October 2, the final stage of the exercise was held at the Prudboy training range, during which the consolidated group of forces of the two countries under the auspices of the United Nations assisted the government of an imaginary country ... in freeing the settlements ... captured by armed terrorists," the statement said. The Indra-2014 Russian-Indian tactical drills began on September 23 and ended on October 2. The two countries' militaries were practicing joint defense of strategic government facilities and combating illegal armed groups, among other things. In course of the drills the troops also had to strike about 300 targets, 100 of which were mobile. In addition, the participants had to destroy simulated bandit groups in a wooded area, work out tactics in rear areas and set up ambushes and observation posts. Earlier in July, Russia and India conducted naval exercise Indra-2014 in the Sea of Japan. Russian-Indian joint air force drills Avia Indra-2014 took place in late August and early September.

When it comes to India's defense...there should be no compromise..At this time, many countries are eager to sell India some weapons but they are not really reliable .They are on financial pressure due to th very slow economy and deflation and want to make profit.
A steadfast, reliable friend has been and is Russia whose values, ideas and worldview matches with India'a and there is no possibility of enmity between Russia and India. India should co-produce high tech weapons with Russia and that is the best way to make military stronger.
We don't need a nation selling us high tech weapons and depriving us of spare parts when we need them.

@pmaitra @Razor

What is this....RT is bashing avar dear leader!

Russian channel talking about "human rights" violations? Perhaps they dont like this Make in India and his aim to make India an exporter of arms (for obvious reasons..)
Russia is not the USSR. They need money, and they'd rather India purchase the T-90 than the Arjun. You know my position on that issue. :)

I don't agree with much of what the guy is saying.

Actually quite a shock to me to see this interview. Never thought that Russians are so antagonistic to Modi.

This kind of attitude is all the more reason that India must develop and manufacture its weapons. It is hard to depend on people who come from other cultures and most of your energy goes into convincing them.

It seems Russians think that India will go to West aggressively. I do not think that is the case. The fact is Modi is Russia's best hope for cooperation and both Putin and Modi are nationalistic leaders.

This interview is a huge letdown.

Maybe BJP government has been slow to engage Russia. I hope that there is a better dialog between Indian and Russian governments.

However Russians must realize that making fun of a head of State of another country on a State sponsored media channel is not the right way to do business. The correct way is to use diplomatic channels if there are problems in the relationship.

I believe that India has to STOP building relations on the basis of arms purchases. India must develop people to people contacts and common interests.

I don't think RT didn't like Modi, but I think RT didn't like what Modi was doing in not so friendly country.

Russia should stop b****ing about it. Russia cannot dictate, in fact no country in this world can dictate India's foreign policy. Russia itself was sitting in the US' lap after dissolution of the USSR. India never complained about Russian weapons export to China, did we?

This interviewer was earlier criticizing Putin and Russia's policy on Ukraine/Crimea on RT channel..
Do you think she would have any problem in criticizing Modi.
If anything it shows parts of RT are not controlled by the Russi govt.

Not engaging with India is going to hurt Russian economy more than Indian economy. WHY ? Because US is hell bent to damage Russian economy and western Europe can not say or do anything which US does not like. Morever, a lot of nations are trying to sell weapons to India, US want to sell javelin missiles, Europe is eager to sell Eurofighter jets if Rafael deal falls apart...they are lobbying hard...India itself is trying to make high tech weapons at home. US is not willing to transfer technology at his point and that's where Russia can get an upper hand by offering joint manufacturing with TOT.Oh..by the way, the euphoria you saw about Modi in USA is mainly created by liberal young people and Indian- Americans who number 3.5 million and still has a lot of positive feelings towards their native motherland. US media was critical or at best, cold and indifferent just like average American who prefers his beer and potato chips to anything which activates his Brain.

Russia is very important to India and India is very important to Russia. India must make very serious effort to improve relationship with Russia. And this involves improving relationship with China too.

India must participate in building pan-Asia road and rail connectivity so that goods can move freely overland. The movement of goods overland will reduce dependence on sea and will reduce influence of West over Asian trade.

Indian government has to think about what is good for India, the people who live here. The people who have emigrated from India become of marginal interest.

We as an Asian country and other large country on this great landmass are Russia and China. It is very important for India to collaborate with Russia and China in developing Asian infrastructure.
