Auditors raise doubts over NDTV’s ability to continue as going concern


New Delhi, Nov 18 : NDTV’s auditors are of the view that there is a significant doubt on the ability of the company to continue as a going concern.

The report was submitted to the board of directors of NDTV on November 12 by BSR & Associates, Chartered Accountants signed by its partner, Rakesh Dewan.

The auditors’ report that the parent company which runs the television business, current liabilities exceed its current assets by Rs 88.92 crore. These conditions, along with other conditions cast a significant doubt on the ability of the company to continue as a going concern, BSR said.

CBI has handed over its FIR to ED, which is being examined. There are accusations of a financial gain of Rs 48 crore to promoters of NDTV and suspicious use of shell companies in routing the money, which the broadcast company has denied. CBI had lodged an FIR against the Roys, RRPR Holdings and unknown officials of ICICI Bank.
On the I-T and ED investigations against NDTV since 2011, senior government officials, who didn't wish to be named but cited the allegations on the basis of documents, said that NDTV, controlled by Roys, had only two subsidiaries in India till 2006. However, from 2006 to 2012, it floated 32 "paper companies", including 14 foreign shell companies in UK, the Netherlands, Mauritius, Sweden and UAE.
The officials alleged that this was done with the intention to launder unaccounted income of Rs 1,100 crore using these entities. The sources accused these companies of having "no real business, no employees and no business premises".
Allegedly, 14 shell companies (except the one at Mauritius) were intentionally dissolved after laundering the funds so that it becomes difficult for the tax and enforcement authorities in India to lay hands on them.
Officials further alleged that the paper companies have claimed to have raised funds through unidentified entities situated in British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, UK, US, Switzerland and the Netherlands during financial years 2007-2009. The IT department had already found that these claims were "false", they said.
Further assessment by I-T department of the concealed income of Rs 642.5 crore relating to the group and related companies was done during UPA regime on February 21, 2014, an officer said. Then, re-assessment proceedings for concealment of income of Rs 403.85 crore was initiated against RRPR Holdings Pvt Ltd (owned by the Roys), which is currently under way. Subsequently, assessment proceedings of allegedly unexplained funds of Rs 400 crore, received from unknown entities in British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands, is also being carried out by the department, an officer said.

CRPF to deploy level 4 bullet-proof vehicles to withstand IED blasts, terror attacks

NEW DELHI: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which is one of the central government's apex agencies responsible for the security of VVIPs, has begun to upgrade itself. According to reports, the CRPF has now decided to buy Level-4 type bullet-proof vehicles for its convoy which can withstand IED blasts and terror attacks.

Sources claim that the Home Ministry has approved the procurement of these Level-4 type bullet-proof vehicles, which will be included in the CRPF convoy soon.

According to security experts, Level-4 vehicles can easily withstand huge IED explosions, and weapons like AK-47 have no impact on it.

It may be recalled that the Special Protection Group (SPG), which provides security to the Prime Minister of India and VVIP protectees, has Level-4 vehicles in its convoy.

The ASL team also coordinates with the local police during the recce.

For the protection of all these VIPs, the CRPF is currently using the bulletproof vehicles of the SPG on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The CRPF will use the vehicles of SPG which are currently being used for the protection of the Gandhi family, as well as the technical gadgets which are engaged in the security of their house.

According to the information, CRPF will use modern technical gadgets installed at the residences of these VVIPs along with CCTV cameras.

Around six CRPF companies have been deployed to protect the Gandhis adequately.

The CRPF has requested the SPG and the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide them bulletproof cars, as per the information received by Zee News.

Two contingents of central paramilitary forces with Israeli X-95, AK series, and MP-5 guns have already taken over the security at Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence.

A similar contingent has also been deployed at the residence of former Congress president and MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi at Tughlaq Lane and Priyanka Gandhi's Lodhi Estate.
