The fact that even after all these years they survive is the problem here. We cannot fight a war with such internal security threats.
The thing to understand here is that Maoists are actually on decline. They are surrendering en masse.
"The total number of surrenders in the state in 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017 was 344, 315, 465 and 366, respectively. Lack of strong leadership among the insurgents, absence of young leaders, reduction in recruitment, deaths and illnesses due to Covid-19 and initiatives encouraging surrenders are seen as major factors. "
"in 2021 the number of surrenders has seen a sharp spike. Officials say, given that there are three months still to go before year-end, if the current trend continues then total surrenders by Maoist insurgents may break a five-year record. The maximum number comes from Chhattisgarh, where 312 Maoists have surrendered this year until August 31"
Maoists do one big attack per year. To show that they are still relevant and everyone jumps up and thinks they are a HUGE threat on a rapid incline. But they fail to see how many of these Maoists keep surrendering each year. Every year their surrender numbers has seen a sharp incline. There is no good leadership left. And Covid has hit them hard.
Even after the ambush of CRPF , they keep surrendering. Just recently 8 more had surrendered in Chattisgarh. They know they are fighting a losing battle. And infrastructure is being built , various schemes and development is taking place. Most sane Maoists who had started fighting the government were fighting because, previously they weren't paid attention. But now they know that the only thing stopping the development is themselves.
They are going to lose. There is no two ways about it. 344 surrenders in 2020 . Certainly more this year going with current trend. They aren't going to be left with enough fighters in the coming years.
