And the US will want exactly that...for China to fight on two fronts, so it has a better chance at defending Taiwan.

Likewise, China wants India to fight on three fronts (China on the northern and eastern sectors, Pakistan on the west). So the only way the US can ensure India opens a front against China is if it can guarantee Pakistan's abstinence.

Also, China wants the US to fight on multiple fronts (defending Taiwan against itself, maybe lending India a hand, and defending Greece from Turkey).

Hostility is the only way India can restore Status Quo ante, unless 11 decides to pull back.

Likewise, China's only real crack at Taiwan will cost it a restoration of Status Quo with India. Trying to set a new status quo now will be risky.
