Nice find! Interesting placement there ie not at the front of the helo indicating that the purpose is to be used for ground surveleince and not assisting in flying.

These traditional nosed ones don't have the space. It should be useful for flying as well. It could also be a retrofit by us like in sea kings

The postioning of this would preclude its use by the pilots IMO. It looks like it will be used for ground survelince only (like the Sea King EO balls).

+ If you notice this Mi-17 has emergency floatation gear which suggests it is used for short ranged coastal duties (limited SAR or surveillance) much like the Sea Kings. The IN and ICG really need to have their air wings (especially helo fleets) expanded MASSIVELY.

Saw one today in my vicinity..

Also found one old pic seems to be of the same chopper,seems major modifications done like nose job and removal of bleed air valve outlet for may be civilian purpose
