Impossible it to be a manpad that too far away from the border. Its not easy. One report said tangled in high tension wire, so pilot error?

Russian tech and engines highly unreliable and prone to accidents. The ill fated chopper is Mi 17 V5 is newly inducted one. important asset like CDS should be ferried in VVIP choppers available in western countries. Time to revamp our procurement strategy and priorities. Hope GOI procure Agusta Westland or Sirkosky S92 on emergency procurement .

There will be always a second person who is at speed with all the developments and thought process of CDS.

From the visuals it seems there's still dense fog cover in the area?

Normal at this time of the year.

Fog descends out of nowhere and you won't be able to see your hand if you hold it in front of your face.

Same in Kodaikanal and surrounding areas too.

Halfway in my 11th grade, we had gone on a trek/hike to the Nilgris during our December holidays.
We were warned by our guide of sudden fog enveloping us and should that happen, everyone was supposed to freeze at their spot and not move. We were walking along a stream when it happened like a horror movie with zero visibility, one dude panicked and started walking, slipped, fell on the rocks and fractured his knee. It was nothing short of a nightmare from there on.

And there should be some independent enquiry of the SOPs and standards followed by IAF. Their performance, while staying out of action, is to lose a lot of equipment and lives including their own

Info from Tamil news channels

1) The MI 17V5 was travelling from sulur air base to Wellington. The crash happened when it was 5 mins from landing.

2) Helicopter crashed in area belonging to TN govt. There was some estate there.

3) Heli had tank full. Due to this there was a massive blaze. This fuel and the difficult terrain made it hard to put out the fire. It took around 1 hour to put it out.

4) Some bodies were recovered. Some people with 80% of burn injuries were rescued and sent to military hospital Wellington.

5) identities of dead and injured are not released publically. Only numbers released.

6) TN govt sending team of top doctors from Chennai.

7) amateur videos show local bringing water in buckets to try and put the fire out.


Overall it doesn't look good. Very less possibility of survivors.

I hope that army will buy their own helicopter for ferrying generals so that they don't have to rely on shoddy IAF helicopters.

This will be done at the highest level and media wont get any info about it other that whats released.
such will be under tight wraps.
I hope if there is a foul play, a retribution be given to them at the earliest and pronto.
