tejas mk 1P is Manohar Parrikar's way of calling IAf's and import lobby's bluff. With this single decision MOD has moved the goal post with the single mindedness seeding a viable modern mil aviation industry.

tejas mk1 A will exceed some IAF fighters in some parameters , and fall short of them in some parameters, which is true of any other fighter.

But one thing that cant be questioned is its usefulness to the nation in safeguarding strategic autonomy in however smaller way it is possible while providing critical tactical battlefield support to the soldiers on the front line in huge numbers because of its cost effectiveness.
This is what I had tweeted

He personally declared a set time limit? Nah, he was ordered. Media doesn't create a time limit for Parikarr to shut his mouth. His boss tells told him to zip his lip for six months because he was making life hell for the administration with his contradictory statements.

MoD doesn't create the list, the services do. MoD takes the list to get it financed and this is where he fails, on purpose I suspect.

As long as China doesn't attack... you would be right.

You can defund HAL/DRDO and sell it to the private sector... problem solved.

IAF knew a decade ago it wanted Rafale, it was politics and babu that delay. Parikarr is just the latest cog in the wheel of modernisation.

They couldn't induct LCA, it fails 53 safety and operational requirements today. Back then it failed hundreds. It cannot in good conscience be inducted when it was designed for a different age where tactical fighters rise from its base and defend a very small area. IAF has to think more strategically when talking about China.

IDK what lie you are referring to, but the Holland government was lied to by Modi when he agreed to 30% offsets and then demand 50%.

"it fails 53 safety and operational requirements today. Back then it failed hundreds"

would like to read this list......

LCA 1P is LCA MkII [emoji23][emoji23]

How else do you get AESA, EWS, GE F414 into it? Basically government has told IAF you have to buy this and told HAL & Co you bloody well deliver this in 3 years

LCA Mk-2 was to AMCA what Prithvi was to Agni. All the tech before going into Agni(s) is rigourously tested on the dummy Prithvi tests. Even for our BMD the Prithvi was used as a test bed.

LCA Mk-1A / 1P will have a hard time doing all that unless the ADA+HAL+IAF+MOD begin to talk the same language on the subject. There are indications that there may be a process underway to that effect. So what happens ultimately is yet to be seen. But there are many a slip between the cup and the lip.

The supplies of F414 were to begin from next year. GE must already have done the customization asked for. GE cannot simply be ejected. OTOH the Kaveri is not quite gone . Kaveri will ultimately power the UCAV as well and having the Kaveri power the LCA Mk-1A / 1P is a definite option, otherwise the Kaveri will have difficulties of production scaling up just like the LCA is facing right now.

So things are still up in the air, for the time being.

But there was news of Tejas Mk2 being stopped.
With Tejas Mk1A IAF might not be needing a Mk2 but Navy definitely needs the Mk2 version.

So when we are making Mk2 then how can it be closed for any one of them IAF or IN?

120 Mk1+Mk1A are being suggested to be ordered
But there are still a Gap of another 150 A/C we need Mk2 for that Don't we?

The 99 on order engines (F-414INS6) can easily be used solely in the NLCA Mk-2.

There is a real danger of the IAF LCA Mk-2 being scrapped. And that means 300-120 will be open to 'Make In India' which is a queer amalgam of 'Buy and make' + 'Buy global' categories.

The IAF tejas mk2 was cancelled by import lobby jounos and TOI rajatpandit in their spurious opinion pieces faking as news.

if you read newspapers long enough these are no credible reports,It is their fond wish to cancell the IAF tejas mk2, because then only doors will open for further foreign purchase or additional rafale order. PM and DM have waited for 16 months to conclude rafale deal. With no signs of progress on that front, the NDA govt has chosen tejas mk1 A as the replacement of the about to retire migs, which is logical.

Tejas mk2 will be near MMRCA in thrust to weight ratio, ASEA -Astra- combo along with IRST, OBORG, lower drag, higher fuel capacity etc, etc, SO it will be impossible for IAF to resist ordering a few more squadrons of tejas mk2 when the time comes.

How can you can cell tejas mk2 after ordering 99 GE 414 engines.

It did not fail.

The test flight program proceeded as per script and all these 43 goals were met as and when the time came for them is a proper perspective.

@ersakthivel,

Apparently there are a lot of discussions going on about related matters, which have a direct bearing on LCA Mk-2.

idrw.org/us-indo-jet-engine-jet-set-go-or-no/
This report (February 6, 2015) mentions 'possibility of partial transfer of technology' under the general report of DTTI negotiations. Most likely if we get ToT then it would be partial ie. without the hot section.

http://idrw.org/ges-f414-ins6-engine-for-tejas-mk-ii-on-schedule-ceo-of-ge-india/
This report (March 7, 2015) has Nalin Jain Prez and CEO of GE Transportation and Aviation Business in South Asia mention start of supply for F-414-INS6 as 2016 and a 'Transfer Of Technology'.

http://idrw.org/india-to-get-ges-f414-ins6-engines-later-this-year-for-tejas-mkii/
This report (July 6, 2015) says 'no transfer of technology'. This was when the DTTI was still under negotiation. However in this case the Indian side itself, in the DTTI talks, may have moved onto an ab-initio AMCA engine (can't be sure). Hence perhaps the rumours of No-ToT.

This report (June 1, 2015) which BTW does not quote anybody, seems to be the most believable, from my POV about the whole affair of an engine. And does not give any indication of a ToT on F-414-INS6. Which is reasonable considering DTTI is not headed anywhere.
http://ajaishukla.blogspot.in/2015/06/ashton-carter-to-face-indian-demand-for.html
Note - DTTI is co-chaired from Indian side by an Ex-Defence Production Secretary Mr. G. Mohan Kumar. So ToT is obviously going to be a serious issue from our side. But this happened only in the NDA-2. Earlier in UPA-2 it was NSA Shivshankar Menon involved. So the focus has changed from our side too. And obviously that must have happened based on the response from the other side. Witness the low level stuff being touted as DTTI Pathfinder Projects (NBC clothing, Mobile hybrid power kit, Roll-on Roll-off kit for C-130 and a micro-drone). Completely laughable stuff.

Exactly that was my point.... It was appearing illogical from my point of view.....

This is what happens when user doesnot get involved since inception of any project. The last option left is to make maximum out of minimum.

Story would have been different if IAF would have involved itself since project definition phase .
