look no one cares what iaf do in practice or tests or whatever . but when ur showcasing strength to whole world live then everything should be perfect n right on mark . failure allways have excuses ,button got jam , radar not working , missiles were bad , pilot were not trained etc etc.......there are thousands of excuses.
You can't make sure a missile will home true or misfire or drop like dud until you fire. You could best do is a quality check through simulation or try to establish quality of a batch by picking one at random and fire. Even that can not guarantee true performance of each and every missile of even that batch let alone entire type. And that's just with AAMs.
But of course it leaves one with a bad taste when so many missile failed to intercept their target at a public event of this mega size. But one has to see things practically. It's an obligation not option.
As for rockets and free fall bombs are concerned. Well they do fall on target sometimes and sometimes they don't. Its usual thing.
Point is no weapon comes with 100% kill tag. Not even made in USA. Since we are talking about Russian export we can comfortably let go the kill percentage tag. Even CAG has criticized reliability of Russian origin AAMs in IAF inventory. But why blame them, they don't have condition like we have here in India. Best solution is to go for indigenous development of family of AAMs for this reason alone leaving aside other all so important reasons.
And if you and others are pissed because of what Pakistanis are saying then take a chill pill and relax. These are such idiots that they praise Musharraf who says Pakistan has got ahead of India with launch of PAKSAT-1 (how come a third hand satellite launched using Russian rocket in early 2000 left India behind in space race) . And on their national television he can say This many Indian soldiers died at Kargil. But when anchor asked about Pakistani casualties he replied saying he doesn't know exact numbers but said its less. (Astonishingly Kargil war was fought inside Indian territory, into which PA had sent its troops, Musharraf was a senior general then and all professional army keep log of every men it commissioned or recruited. Yet he can't give exact numbers).
This is their lowliness. Then why should we care about what they say.
