Yes but regardless what old or current ministers say, Belgium remains committed to hosting US nukes so the Rafale or EF don't have a chance, all these guys will anyways be ex-ministers when the decision is taken for the F-35 sometime early next decade. Costs of the F-35 will be lower or on par with the Rafale & EF and F-35 will win on price quality.
F-35 doesn't have any industrial offer to compete. Belgium can't lose 5000 aerospace jobs. The Flemish lobby has been caught in a conspiracy and had to remove themselves from the process. A new team is in place and will make the decision based on industrial considerations. If Belgium wants to do nuclear sharing within NATO France has the right to offer them ASMP-A as their new nuclear device. Launching it at 500km is safer than flying over the target with obsolete dumb bombs. US is not the only one with nukes.

First news and pics from ILA:

Note: on the left side between Spear and Storm Shadow, it looks like a Spice 250 quad launcher and further outside AARGM.

What additional capabilities or sensors will be required to meet the Tornado RFI?

Volker: With the integration of Meteor, Storm Shadow and Brimstone we are already making big steps forward. The Tornado RFI asks us to take on 10 roles from the Tornado and two additional ones in relation to the Future Combat Air System.

I cannot disclose the full configuration standard for confidentiality reasons, however, we will see modifications in a number of areas. These include: the sensors (like the E-Scan radar), the DASS, in the targeting and recce pods and on the HMI side (one option could be the Striker 2 helmet). We will see modifications to the basic aircraft in the aerodynamic area, fuel capacity, RCS and IR reduction, propulsion enhancements and general systems. On the weapons side we will see the integration of enhanced guided bomb units, stand-off weapons, small diameter precision bombs and other German-specific requirements. With the comms we will see enhancement of the MIDS and the Beyond Line Of Sight capability. There are some new requirements among these, but many have already been discussed — though not yet under contract — under the P4E Enhancements.

Very interesting, seems like there are several enhancements in the pipeline.

I have no problem with more Eurofighters for Germany

Announcement on Future Combat Air System seems imminent. That is exciting .

That is actually an uprated engine proposed for Typhoon.

Eurofighter chief executive Volker Paltzo, speaking at the ILA air show in Berlin on 25 April, said that the consortium intends to increase the thrust of the Typhoon’s Eurojet EJ200 engine by “about 15%”, in order to boost payload and range. Each Typhoon is powered by a pair of the 13,500lb-thrust (60kN) engines.

Paltzo says the upgrade will also include additional capabilities for the Euroradar Captor-E active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar that has been in development since 2014.

MTU is incapable of making high pressure sections so any SCAF engine will be coming from Safran while MTU will make the low pressure section as usual.

No it's not, the one is an upgrated EJ200, the other a new proposed engine development for the NG fighter. But it's logical to base it on the know how and experience of the EJ200 of course, since it's the best base for the NG fighter.

MTU cannot make EJ200 without Rolls Royce who will not be participating in the SCAF project. They cannot submit an engine design using RR components that are intellectual property of the UK. There is no choice but to have Safran leading the engine design as MTU is not capable of making anything without a partner to make the high pressure turbines.

Who says they don't want partners? It's likely that most of the Eurojet partners will be invited too, just as Safran (although they have plenty of problems these days). But the EJ 200 is certainly the better engine to be used as the base, since it already offer the thrust potential, Supercruise capability as well as a TVC system, to be useful for the NG fighter.

The EF as a whole offers more potential for the NG fighter, while Thales might be the main contributer from the French side (FSO, integrated Talios, EW capabilities).

Franco-German fighter means exactly that. Any companies outside of that need not apply, especially ones outside of the EU. The UK has already chosen F-35, they have no money for SCAF and Rolls Royce will not be a part of it without UK participation.

Wrong, since the project is an Airbus Germany and Spain project to start with and that Eurojet includes spanish parts (TVC) as well. Not to mention that Italy (also part in the Eurojet consortium, the radar, electro optics, EW, just as a partner in the Euro MALE programme) and other EU countries have already stated to be part of the programme.
Germany and France will lead the programme, but the more partners and commitments they get, the larger the sale potential. The aim is not just replacing German/Spanish EFs and French Rafales, but to provide a single solution for the EU instead of 3 European fighters.

Wrong, only outsiders will be admitted if they commit to the programme. Workshare is not going to be given to Spain if they don't provide funding. Italy has already committed to F-35 so they are out. Spain may yet wise up. Your contention that an MTU/Rolls Royce engine is to be selected is fantasy. It is for the Typhoon only. Whatever legacy tie ups Airbus has with Typhoon partners has nothing to do with the SCAF project.

Only 4 of Germany's 128 Eurofighter jets combat ready — report

Only a handful of the German Air Force's Eurofighter jets are combat ready, according to a report in the magazine Der Spiegel published Wednesday.

Due to a technical problem with the defense system of the combat aircraft only 10 of the Luftwaffe's 128 Eurofighters are mission ready, according to the report.

The problem stems from a cooling liquid leak in the aircraft's wing pod sensors, which are used to recognize hostile jets or incoming attacks. Without the defense system the Eurofighter jets are not combat ready.

The shortage of aircraft means that Germany is unable to fulfill its NATO obligations to have 82 combat ready jets for crisis situations.

The wing pod issue is only one problem facing the Luftwaffe. Der Spiegel reported that there are only enough missiles to make only four Eurofigher jets ready for combat.

The German military confirmed to Der Spiegel the technical problems with the Eurofighter, but would not comment on the number of combat-ready aircraft, given that this information is classified.

The revelation in Der Spiegel is the latest report to cast doubt on Germany's military readiness and capabilities.

http://www.dw.com/en/only-4-of-germanys-128-eurofighter-jets-combat-ready-report/a-43611873

Airbus said the restricted supply of the components was “being urgently addressed by the Eurofighter industrial community” and it would work closely with the German air force to minimize the impact of the situation.

It said it had provided the German Air Force with “a package of best practices, training and workarounds to mitigate the shortage of components and has put in place measures to increase the output of repairs to the existing inventory.”

Sources familiar with the issue said the German government was notified about the issue at the end of March, and faulted BAE for failing to provide further advance notice of the issue, which would have allowed preemptive orders of needed parts.

A spokeswoman for BAE said the company was supporting the Airbus-led efforts to address the issue as part of the Eurofighter consortium.

Do you really believe this news!!??

Germany spends €38.5 billion.

Something is definitely off, but I doubt availability is definitely more than 10 planes or no.of missiles available as stated in the article.

Do I really believe that BAe has an incompetent supply chain? Absolutely!
