The Igla version army is buying is 20 years old, when i read about IA going for Igla, i thought at least they can go for Verba. Horrible planning and execution.
What is sa number of verba , which one they were buying ? The whole contract was of 1 billion. Thank God drdo has succeeded in making this systems..
Drdo should make a 15kg & 1.5 metre system otherwise ia will again delay whole project..

Just use a thermal.
What is the cost comparison between NVG's and Thermal Sights.
I believe thermal sights are generally more expensive.
Anyway if a company like Tonbo has reduced costs drastically then good.
Do we manufacture zero import dependent Thermal Sights.

(Also optics material for Thermal Sights is usually not normal glass but mainly Germanium based. To be verified. I believe its supply comes from the developed countries only . Again import dependency).

Entire Igla production deal looks very suspicious. its like producing mig-29 in 2024.

Verba ( SA-29 ): The Verba is an upgraded version of the Igla system and was introduced in 2014. It features several improvements over its predecessor, including enhanced resistance to countermeasures, improved range, and higher manoeuvrability. The Verba uses an advanced multispectral optical seeker with increased resistance to various types of countermeasures, such as flares and jamming. It has a range of up to 6.5 kilometres ( 4.3 miles ) and can engage targets flying at altitudes of up to 4.5 kilometres ( 2.8 miles ).

verba sa29 seems better compared to vshorad in terms of seeker. it uses ir+UV seeker which could be better.

We have dual band uncooled ir seeker which has better sensitivity.. sensitive of vshorads will be better for longer ranges for countering flares we should have worked on UV based too...
In other terms like range both are similar not much of difference.. vshorad will always be more munueverable, has proximity fuse. IGLA has got magnetic fuse which isn't as effective as newer proximity ones.
it weights 19kg
Finish have reported sa18 igla to have better counter resistance against flares..

ATGMs have recoil ?

Yes they do have
I know many will say mordern day atgms are "recoilless" but it's a deceiving term
Nothing can be completely recoilless
But coming to this particular pic look these vehicles aren't made with motive of being used as anti armour at most they can carry machine guns
But they are modified wrt warfare scenario so such things can be discounted as u need to let down something when u modify the vehicle to some other role

ATGMS are usually "soft launch", i.e. negligible recoil. You can see them being fired from pretty flimsy tripods also, so its not an issue for a vehicle. IG some shaking will be there, might make the SACLOS control part a little shaky right after launch, not much to worry about.

Why RD-33? MIG-29 Retirement stretching beyond 2035? Upg has new engines already! Not able to digest this... Is it to have back up for 404 engines for Tejas?
This one is the most newest Variant which has 88kn thrust compared to 82-84kn of earlier one and this has no smoke, it's specific fuel consumption is less. More efficient.
The addition of new conformal fuel tanks in spine of mig29 has increased its weights as it will carry more fuel and also the weight of tank.. which had also reduced its thrust to weight ratio. And it is also more efficient too.
it will have less maintainance too. It's service life is increased so in long term it will more beneficial..
This engines will be more indigeneous

This is example of very poor planning when they began upgrading mig29s with rd33 series 3 engines by that time rd33mk was almost ready and later went on mig35 & indian navy's mig29k too..
but still iaf choose rd33 series 3 engines.

Each Rd33mk produce (53/88.4kn)
8kn increase in after burning thrust for mig29 is alot.

Mikhoyan had said that mig35 take 250% less time for maintainance. So we can conclude rd33mk too will take quite less amount of time for maintainance..

SAM system are very nuanced subject, no single Sam system is effective against all targets, Some are good against fighter jets, cruise missile, tactical ballistic missiles, while some are good for large ballistic missiles, typically as the interception range gets bigger, maneuverability of the SAM missiles goes down, and beyond some range, it can only intercept things like large planes such as Awacs, fueling tankers etc. This is why Multilayer Defense system are so important.

This system's range is said to be 180km, there is no way to verify this and i'm pretty sure it can only hit relatively slow moving things like big planes or things like cruise missiles or fighter jets. A lot of iranian weapons are driven by propoganda from islamists, so keep that in mind
