Hurr durr screwdrivergiri bad 30 years R&D + 10 years testing good, meanwhile, China doing photocopygiri, fucking carbon-copied F-22s, F-35s, MQ-9, S-300, S-400, Su-35 and literally anything they can get their hands on.
They will soon kick our soldiers down the Himalayas while we feel proud of our dephens PSUs ethical record of never copying anything and submitting patents of components outdated 50 years ago.

Baba nothing against them, since only 24 required they kit assembled. If order is higher they will localize it. Don't drag our icons like OFB :basanti:

You know some people still have that colonial mindset when they want to protect the IP of countries which collectively looted india.

copying is no issue as long as the mastery of the different aspects of the tech of a system is undertaken enthusiastically and on a warfooting by the gov and then the design is iteratively improved all the while people are trained and knowledge is retained through human resources for further weapons development.

copying is only an issue if no learning and improvement is attempted.

Yes, but there is little to be mastered for a simple system such as an armored vehicle. It is always profitable and efficient for an organization (big or small) to outsource such low-level items to another third party, or mass producers.

Defense PSUs can ideally focus on the development of critical, niche technologies like radar, stealth, etc. while outsourcing other non-technologically challenging tasks to private players.

For example, I remember reading, AKMs we brought for RRs cost us less than half that of each INSAS we make in OFB factories.

You are forgetting an important aspect of reversing engineering i.e. competency.
We never copying anything or infringe patents maybe because we are technically incapable to do so.
PSU are not a hot bed for cutting edge ideas or innovation on the other hand creating thinking is frowned upon. Their is also a lot of politics going around in these organization.
We just don't have the MIC/industrial ecosystem needed to do such works.
HAL even imports screws from Russia.
OFB developed the Dhanush gun only after it got hold of schematics, working and software for Haubits FH77.

We need another 25-30 years to have industrial infrastructure to copy stuff like PRC.

On a side note we take lot of inspiration (we copy) from Israeli technology
Our seeker on Astra and active seeker on Akash missile is heavily inspired from Seeker from Barak-8 (and possibly some aspect Derby RS-Seeker).

Our Uttam AESA also takes inspiration from EL/M-2052 radar. Even our EW suite took inspiration from EL/M-8222.

OFB is just outright lazy mofos. Most likely they have bloated workforce, no automation in production and complete apathy to field product in International market. Over the existence the last few years the effort put by OFB - Trichy and some other OFB - Ishapore is much bigger that what they do before decades.

You can call OFB names but you should never never call them lazy.their desire to f*ck up projects and blaming everyone else and also commiting strikes is higher than that of a meth addict on viagra

We should privatize all PSU.
The only way forward is we open all defense R&D and manufacturing to private players be its CM, BM, satellites, EW Suites, anything and everything.
Let it be free for all and let free market decide the way ahead.

Disagree we shouldn't blindly follow western model they are really profit driven and bloated
Dpsu's like hal,ada should have some govt hand in them while drdo should be reorganized and should focus only on high tech stuff
But i agree that screwdriver orgs like beml, bel, all the ordinance factories should be sold

russian robot dog with a anti tank rpg .

Due to recoil its motors will fail as they cant survive shock. Moreover one need to keep the barrel or atgm/rockets near to the center of gravity so that it wont tumble after 1 shot.Looks like another unitree china robot in russia
Weakness of this robo dog from china.A simple emp device can end all their functions
Here is a thread for the weakness of these unmanned ground robos

Then the free market will tell you that the most profitable way for private players in defense industries is: act as the sales agent for foreign products.
No need to bear huge R&D investment, no need to take huge risk of failure. With mature foreign designs and core components, the profit is guaranteed.

2 X Su-30MKI dropping 8 DRDO 450kg HSLD (High Speed Low Drag) Bombs during a bombing run

These are base version of 450kg HSLD bomb

Even without guidance, in CCIP/CCRP modes HSLD is accurate

In video since Su30MKI has released the bombs in level flight IMO it is using CCRP mode
