High time to name and shame these traitors. The family should bear the shame of their activities against the country.

That recommendation of punishing all the family members is like opening a Pandora's box. How can we assume that in all such cases the family members who may include aged parents, children and siblings were aware of the treachery and complicit in the act.

Do we want to crucify innocent people. Especially if after detailed investigations it is found that they did not suspect or know anything about the anti national activities of the accused family member.

Here unfortunately some distinctions have to be made. The Hindu community members are usually not enticed by religion or ideological reasons to spy for Pakistan. They usually fall prey to monetary inducement. Sex or love is probably another reason why they get subverted. Maybe sometimes because they feel that the Indian system has failed to deliver justice to them.

Whereas the Muslim community is more likely to to turn traitor for reasons of religion and falling to Pakistani propaganda of religious discrimination in India.
Grand visions of global jihad and Muslim supremacy also may act as a trigger.
There may be cases where the entire family of the traitor was aware of and supported the subversive activities of the accused family member. In such cases your suggestion may seem warranted.

So it is a dicey situation and decisions must be taken after due consideration.

We need to make more use of technology to ferret out the black sheep in organisations. Probably lie detector tests can be made mandatory every one or two years for people working in sensitive organisations. The employees can be asked some questions which will be framed by security agencies. Though not 100% reliable it would be useful. Increased CCTV surveillance of the workplace and regulations on use of personal mobile phones in the workplace etc can be considered.

It will be humanely impossible to catch every traitor or potential traitor but by having good security SOP's the threat can be minimised.

Lastly espionage is two way game. If they can do it we can also do it and we should do it more effectively in Porkiland.

Exactly, at least we should use our weak legislation to keep good intelligence within the borders. Make more use of communication intelligence and a special eye on the people travelling abroad. The fact that these guys travelled from Muscat to Pakistan and then back with firearms and hawala money must indicate some loopholes.

I believe in the developed countries anywhere between 50% to 75% of intelligence is collected through technical means. Data on bank balances, foreign travel, emails monitoring, cell phone records etc are collected regularly/periodically to look out for anything unusual. A sudden unexplained rise in income, buying assets like property, swanky cars, staying in expensive foreign resorts/hotels etc can provide clues to suspicious behaviour.

Some of the advanced countries use powerful computers and AI to sift through enormous amounts of data and detect unusual patterns. A few movies Hollywood have also been made on surveillance by CCTV's and interpretation of data by supercomputers. Mostly hype but some truth is a reality.

In India we have just started the process of creating records of each and every single Indian by the Aadhar Card measure. We have a long way to go to match the advanced countries in mass surveillance techniques.

Without infringing on personal liberty and creating a police state we need to increase nation wide surveillance to detect danger signals.

Aadhar would likely already be linked to CAIR's NETRA. CAIR's NETRA (and the larger Intel setup around it) can do a good job with technical intelligence of the kind you are talking about.
