France is offering us another 36 Rafales in F4 tranche and 6 A330 mrt aerial refuelling acs as part of a combo package for 5 billion Euros.

https://air-cosmos.com/article/rafa...m_medium=Sociallymap&utm_campaign=Sociallymap

There's a good chance that we may accept this offer or link the 6 MRTT to the bigger 114 MRCA ac tender. OR, the 114 MRCA tender may be scrapped and another 54 Rafales bought instead alongwith 54 Su-57MKI and some more Tejas mk1A.

:basanti:
No way anymore Russian stuff is gonna get ordered. Russia is done as far as India is concerned in big purchases.

I heard france is giving 70 percent of tot of rafale including 100% of its m88 engine but it also means w might have to order panther helicopter. i just hope that GOI signed this deal because it is engine tech which we need the most , French are definitely milking us with this deal but in my opinion engine tech is the most imporatant factor as we are decades behind to a workable kaveri engine.

MRTT is the only thing in the list that IAF needs, perhaps rest are not so critical at this point.

In next five years, MoD needs cash in hand to pay for LUH, LCH, MRSAM, QRSAM, additional pinaka , additional Brahmos, maybe even for FICV.

Maybe existing Su-30 + Rafale + Mirage can handle the workload instead of additional 36 rafale.

Panther is no no... France is going to replace them.

Can any one tell me about nozzle used in stealth UCAV how thrust is directed using those flat nozzle and why they are not used in 5th aircrafts? @Okabe Rintarou
It means that extensive research have to be carried to incorporate it in fighter jet. Well it's a good sign afaik no flying wing aircraft in this world have such TVC.
I am not a subject matter expert, but there are various ways to achieve Fluidic Thrust Vectoring:-
  • The simplest way is to use the Coanda effect to your advantage.
  • The second approach is when you asymmetrically inject the secondary stream in supersonic flow stream of nozzle. This creates an oblique shock across the nozzle that diverts the flow achieving vectored thrust.
  • The third approach is to use throat skewing. Here the secondary stream is asymmetrically injected at nozzle throat (instead of after it) which changes the flow such that the result is the formation of a secondary aerodynamic throat which is tilted, thereby achieving vectored thrust.
  • The fourth and most efficient approach is to use Dual Thrust Nozzle. The nozzle is shaped in a particular way where there airflow is: convergent -> throat -> divergent -> convergent. The last two parts together constitute a "recess". Now introduce the secondary stream asymmetrically at the throat and it will create a flow reversal in the recess as the rest of the flow bends around it to exit skewed from the nozzle axis.
As to why it hasn't been used in jet fighters yet, the most likely reason is the complexity, especially in the form of flow instability, introduced by reheat (afterburner). Meanwhile Stealth UCAV like Ghatak will use non-afterburning engines, so its simpler for designing fluid thrust vectoring for them.

Dassault shall deliver 36 planes by 2022 end hope we place order for 4 more squadrons so that we have all of them by 2030
6 squadrons of Rafale will overwhelm the entire PAF in one go. Rest Tejas and Sukhoi can handle.

The grand daddy of Tejas at Jodhpur . 1978. No 220 squadron Desert Tigers.

Four Marut mk1 lined up on the runway waiting for takeoff.

We had acquired 140 Maruts and hadn't it for the Orpheus we wouldn't have replaced them with MiG-23 BN . And then the dedicated 27.

We cut our teeth into indigenous fighter aircraft design and development with the Marut. Ajeet was more of a customisation and upgradation rather than an indigenous development .

There is great news my fellow countrymen on the Tejas mk2 .

FB_IMG_1610911371810.jpg

Some important observations-

1. This is the first indigenous fighter aircraft program where the end user which is IAF has participated in the configuration design stage. They were involved throughout and they provided their inputs regarding what they wanted exactly from Tejas mk2 or MWF.

2. The configuration design stage was completed in 2018 to the satisfacn of the end user .

3. The PDR of the various subsystems and modules started thereafter. The aircraft level preliminary design review was carried out last year and the PDP was completed in March 2020 .

4. The project is in detailed design phase. Covid 19 hampered some portions of the work while giving impetus to some others. Like the CFD computational fluid dynamics team clocked the highest core usage ever. Much of the work is complete. Most of the wind tunnel tests have been completed and some more are planned .

5. The detailed design phase will be over by this year and the CDR or critical design review will be carried out at the end of this year

6. All the raw material have been procured. Metal cutting of some components have started . Orders have been placed for long lead items and their production has already started.

7. The first MWF will be rolled out in mid 2022. The program is currently on track and schedule and Dr Deo is confident that the first flight will take place sometime in 2023.

Meaning Tejas mk2 or MWF will have its first flight even before the first Tejas mk1A is delivered to the Indian airforce.

8. All of the technologies being used in mk2 have already been proven and fine-tuned in mk1. So mk2 is actually a consolidation of the work carried out so far. The ADA team has learnt their lessons from mk1 and the work carried out in weigjt reduction and drag reduction have come handy while designing and developing the mk2.

9. Dr Girish Deodhare said that 50-60 percent of the work is over . Now it's time for actual realisation. Substantial work has also been completed on the Amca project while the team has also made progress on the TEDBF front .

What I am afraid of is IAF asking HAL to curtail Mk1A production from 73 to 45-50 and convert the remaining nos to mk2. This is possible given the tight deadlines that ADA has set for the MWF.

Four MWF production standard acs are planned initially. They will be used for flight testing . There won't be any prototypes.

Some important observations-.

1. All PDR of various sub systems and LRU have been completed for Amca . Aircraft level PDR was completed last month. Configuration has been frozen.

2. The project is in detailed design phase now. Ada plans to roll out Amca mk1 by 2024 and have the first flight in 2025.

3. A Hyderabad based firm is currently fabricating a full scale model of AMCA for RCS tests at Project Orange 🍊 facility. Various laboratories and academic institutions are engaged in RCS reduction studies and other facets of stealth tech. And they have all made good progress . There is a good level of understanding on what is expected from the team .

4. DSI has been incorporated in Amca which has gone a long way in reducing frontal RCS and also resulting in other benefits like a simpler more reliable air intake due to absence of movable ramps.

5. Regarding the TEDBF, the project is in preliminary design phase. The final will be frozen by middle of this year. So in all probability, the TEDBF diagram we saw at Dr Reddy's briefing is most likely the actual stuff and not some diagram from initial conceptual studies.

6. Canards of the close coupling kind waas developed for Tejas mk2 aka MWF. Diverteless intakes is being developed for Amca and both these technologies will be incorporated in Tedbf.

FB_IMG_1610911366882.jpg

7. ADA boss Dr Girish Deodhare is expecting Tedbf to roll out in 2025 followed by first flight in 2026. Tedbf is being designed to replace MiG-29K. So it's MTOW will be atleast 24.5 tons .

8. There's a Naval Project office associated with the TEDBF . In other words, the end user which is Navy is closely involved and they are providing inputs on the configuration and other aspects based kn which the the ac is being designed by ADA.

9. When asked about the challenging and aggresive timelines , the good Dr says that they are achievable since most of the technologies have already been developed and validated and unless something unforseen happens , Amca mk1 will fly in 2025 and Tedbf will fly in 2026 .

PS- Amca will get IOC and get inducted in IAF by 2027-28 . Tejas mk2 will get inducted even earlier .
According to R Madhavan ,HAL CMD , they plan to roll out mk2 in Aug of 24 and have its first flight exactly a year later .

Those are some pretty aggressive timelines. It is always better to set aggressive timelines.

Why not make a naval variant of AMCA instead of TEDBF?

Hope OFB will also learn from HAL.If hal does all this in its timeframe it will be quite an achievement .within 15 years we would have worked on 4 fighter jets and one being 5th generation.the paxtans would no longer have their flying toilet hinges aka jf17 take off from runway.

Why not make a naval variant of AMCA instead of TEDBF?
Converting a land based fighter to carrier based is challenging as well as not optimal .

OTOH doing the opposite is quite easy .

So ORCA developed from TEDBF will be easy while a navala variant of AMCA will be difficult .

Difficult and sub-optimal but not impossible .
