What kind of DDOS? ICMP or HTTP Requests or is it a matter of DNS replies? Ofcourse, it is hard to determine exactly which.

Saar half the time we don't even inform of the attacks because it's taken care by our defences. Only when we feel we might go down do we inform.

Don't think there's one sure shot method to stop ddos, and i'm sure dfi is doing a good job already cause site has been up for me through the day.
I'm not too informed about it, but I believe that your solution lies in ipv6. Since ipsec is an integral part of ipv6, authentication of each packet is guaranteed. But no good news on the horizon for ipv6 enthusiasts. Last I heard, only a few isps in the States had started it, and as for India, Sibal introduced a document which gave '13 as a timeframe within which the state isp will switch to it. But as all of his ideas, this one, may be bunked too, though it actually was more beneficial than harmful

First it said error 404. After that I can read it but looks like it was down.

That was not DDoS but planned maintenance. Unfortunately, browser cache issues led to long outage
