I'm opening this new thread because today is the decision for the biggest defense deal in India. I will change the title heading once the winner is announced. So, please use this thread from here on for all MMRCA related issues.

Decision on $ 10 bn MMRCA deal today

New Delhi: The Defence Acquisition Council will decide on Friday which company will be given India's over $10 billion Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) deal. The race to supply for 126 fighter jets is between two European offerings - the French Rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon, manufactured by a European consortium.

The EuroFighter and the Rafale are relatively new aircraft and according to the IAF state of art. The EuroFighter has entered service with six air forces in the last few years and the Rafale is in service with the French Air Force.

India urgently needs more fighters and the new planes will take 10 years to come, even after the deal is signed.

The IAF wants to begin induction of the MMRCA in its fleet by 2015, by when it will start phasing out the Soviet-era MiG series of fighter jets.

Ah, the EF tried a fast one with the escort just days before eh? As if the President has any say in this matter. Or may be they know from sources that they have won and did a victory escort!!

Final MMRCA Meet Today Ahead Of Bids Opening

The Indian Defence Ministry's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting this afternoon will include final discussions on the Indian Air Force's Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) programme ahead of the opening of commercial bids towards the end of this month. Sources say today's meeting will sort of any outstanding offsets issues and the applicability of new rules.
