well, today, the power balance is much more benefical to China than it was in 1962.

with the expanding national compound power as the base,, CHina's postion in the negotication would go on being improved.

the pressure on India would be heavier and heavier.
Hahaha....you're kidding, right? While China is growing, so is India. And India's military strength in AP is such that China doesn't have a hope in hell of militarily taking over AP. And with both countries having nukes and long range missiles to hit each other's capitals, the possibility of war has reduced even more.

As for negotiations, you can be sure that unless India feels that there is a fair settlement to be had in the matter, no agreement will be reached. And if China tries to hold on for more and more territory, then the matter will simmer on, India will ally with the US instead of remaining neutral, and you'll have a heap of trouble on your southern borders. You don't want to have too many enemies in your neighbourhood now because of your greed for a few sq km of land, now do you?

China has never pushed as far as that. CCP knows it. China is more worried about a Australia, Japan, India partnership.

Not to mention, we may start military to military contact with Taiwan. Two can play at that game.

2. dare Yankees offend its banker?
Dare Chinese offend its biggest client?

If US looks to Thailand and other SE Asian nations, who will China sell to? If the US does it, then Europe will follow suit.

India will catch up with China because over time, chinese growth will only slow, while India's economic growth has just taken off in the past decade, so it can only grow faster. Only reason China is growing faster than India is because China started liberalization 12 years before India, and was at its peak when India was just starting.

the case is that :

1. hasn't India allied with USA yet?

2. dare Yankees offend its banker?
1) Not at all. right now, we're hedging our bets. We have good relations with Russia, and have started to have good relations with US, while 2 or 3 years ago, India and China jointly announced a strategic partnership for the 21st century. India's ideal worldview is that there should be 4 or 5 poles of power and India should be one of them to maintain global stability.

However, China seems to be intent on stopping India's march every step of the way. First your ambassador tells the Indian media that China claims the whole of AP, then you try to block our entry into the NSG, then you block a loan for the development of AP at the Asian Development Bank, then you try and block the listing of Jamaat ud Dawa as a terrorist organization at the UNSC even after the Mumbai attacks, and then then you try to block our ambitions to get permanent seat at UNSC.

If you're intent on becoming our enemies, then you can hardly blame India if we ally with the US. It's up to you to normalize relations, since your govt has been hostile to the rise of India.

2. dare Yankees offend its banker?
Hahaha.....I find this quite funny whenever this is brought up. Let me explain who this works to you.

First, you're not the only banker, the whole world is a banker to the US. You're just the banker who has the most deposit. However, the future of your bank is related to the well being and prosperity of your client.

It's like if I was Bill Gates (US) and I had $10 billion in my bank account (China). If those $10 billion were somehow to vanish, I'd suffer a big loss, but the bank (China) would become bankrupt by the loss. Bill Gates (US) would still have $30 billion in his other accounts in other banks (other countries), so he wouldn't be too bad off.

US has a 14 trillion dollar economy, while China has a $3 trillion economy. If China sells off its $1 trillion dollar reserves, who do you think it's going to hurt more?

@ Badguy -- agreed that china is growing faster and may end up as a superpower.

India is no tortoise either. We will be there too may be 20 years down the line, but we will be.

I have no doubts or illusions about that. Right now china does have the numbers in conventional military terms, but India is just too vast a country like china to be completely overwhelmed.

Your newspapers can beat their chest about being superior for the short term but in the long term it will be India which will have more influence. India is a democracy. That's the biggest advantage India has over you guys.

In the long run we will be there and you know that.

Harikiran, the word Democracy is censored in the Chinese dictionary, and maybe with the new software they are deploying on all PCs in China, web pages with the word democracy may be blocked, or even better reported to the Secret Police/CCP !! :D :D

When you owe tha bank 1 trillion dollars, its the best thing to offend the bank. Or maybeeven forcibly close the bank, so that you dont have to repay the loan? Oh boy, and does USA has the capability to close the bank (by force)?? You know the answer.

Comprende?

LOL good one. :)

I was about to mention regarding that PC software installation too.

The Chinese insist that its to allow parents to control what the kids are watching and check pornography.

I think, a parent can really take care of that in their home PC.

What's the need for the GOVT. to get involved in it.
I just don't get it :((

why should china launch war?

China is growing more powerful day by day.

time stands by us.

the longer the disputy lasts, the more power balance will benefit china.

the longer the disputy lasts, the more weight of bargaining china will get!
what more weight china getting after long dispute with Taiwan..

well, the economy of taiwan has be assimilated by PRC now.

without the trade cross the strait and finanical support of PRC, Taiwan's economy would be in deep trouble.

let us wait and see......taiwan would be assimiliated peacefully by mainland china eventually..

Badguy,

The longer the dispute between India and China, the better it is for India as China may be more powerful economically now, but in due course there will not be much of a difference. Militarily, even right now you cant do anything as India has a good armed forces and powerful at that.

That apart, hope Taiwan never becomes part of PRC again. Their product quality is far better than China and I import material from there.

you seem to still live in 1990s..

Taiwan's economy depends on Mainland China seriously now!

the trade scale of PRC is almost 10 time more than that of Taiwan.

40%+ of Taiwan goods are exported to mainland china .

mainland China is the biggest trade partner of Taiwan while Taiwan is just the 6 th biggest trade parter of mainland China.

how can "china ask faor from taiwan to let them trade in their country"?
