I hope under the new CDS, he will push for the Army to have its own fleet of helicopters and drones. The turf war between the IAF and IA is so dumb and meaningless and saps the fighting force as a whole.
True imo IAF should not have heavy attack helo's as its primary role is ground support but thats a discussion for another thread

Not in race

1) 3 service chiefs who retired most recently will not be eligible to be appointed CDS because the cut-off age has been set at 62.

2) Only Commander-in-Chief-level officers and not anyone below this.

Probables

1) Officer who is serving as Lt Gen or Gen or an officer who has retired in the rank of Lt Gen or Gen but has not attained the age of 62 years on the date of his appointment.

2) The main contenders will be two Army officers who looked after critical sectors involving China

3) It opens up the field for former commander-in-chief rank officers, who retire at the age of 60.

4) The changes to the rules don’t necessarily mean that the next CDS will be a retired officer, but merely open up more options for the government.
