Re: India Test Fires Underwater Version of Brahmos Missile

Yeah it is ready. So where are you going to put it?? :dude:

Navy does not want VLS Brahmos on new submarines.

Good try Mr. Pillai; now try to fit in tubes, again !
Nrj we have to think out of box.

Submarine can tow unmanned submerged vehicle with Brahmos vertical launcher.

till they cut open a submarine then do all the fitting for vertical launch tubes and then again put it together.

BTW... read in youtube comments a few days ago...

Some people actually think that any missile launched from a nuclear sub would automatically have a nuclear warhead!

Navy does not want Brahmos in Vertical Launchers in new line of submarines. VLS are not to be used for offensive purpose.

Vertical launchers will be used only to defend against ASW aircraft.

Pillai is dreaming. He should devote time in reducing diameter of missiles below 0.6 m rather than giving useless marketing speech.

Or they should build SAM version of Brahmos

Do we have the the Dimensions for Brahmos 'mini' ?
I suppose they intend to use it from MiG 29K.

If Dia of Brahmos-3 is 0.533 then a t.tube launched version may be on cards.
The air launched version is to be around 1.5 tonnes so sub. version should <2 tonnes

They can replace Klub (sizzlers) missiles.

But by the time they mature our Kilos may be on their way out.

So, the project has future only if they can be mated to Scorpene and P-75 I

But interestingly Brahmos mini would have a range of 290 km ( even though weight 1.5 tonnes)

I don't know why they are testing this variant again and again. You don't have platform.

Rather Brahmos corp should use resources to build compatible version of Brahmos for sub tubes if at all they are hoping for navy's orders for submarines.

This vastly increases the export potential of Amur class( with VLS) to friendly countries.

Nobody is buying Lada. It is non-existent platform.

India is not buying it either. And if by magic Lada trumps extension of scorpene orders, Navy will just ask to remove those attack missiles from vertical launchers.

@nrj. VLS for subs is important. or we will be stuck with exocet crap like we are getting in the scorpenes. also ramjet engines require huge inlets. there is only so much you can reduce the dia.

@trackwhack

Navy does not want offensive missiles in vertical launchers. They will use VLS only and only against ASW flying bodies as a act of survival.

Probably Navy's insistence is result of thinking that sub's co-ordinates should not be immediately compromised in case of adversary.

Nrj if that is the case IN is better of without submarine launch Brahmos.

Very True!

IN's subsurface strategy is more important than Brahmos orders.

Pillai should sell it somewhere else !

headline slightly misleading - should preferavbly read as " India Test Fires Underwater-Launched Version of Brahmos Missile

--- because it would have to be differentiated from a version of the missile which could travel UNDERWATER at hypersonic speeds as the original title would imply - and that is not the case

The test is only the beginning. It has been fired from a pontoon. They real thing will be when it is fired from one of our subs. I think the missile will be more suited for anti ship operations than land attack when launched from a sub. It can be a carrier killer!

Nrj, this missile received tech from K15, therefore it wont be sold to any one except Russia, which already have capability to launch underwater missiles from subs.

Re: India Test Fires Underwater Version of Brahmos Missile

I found the below quote in WIKI really interesting when considering the fact that someone earlier had stated that the brahmos missile firing picture gave the impression that it was from a moving platform due to a slant ....

"The advantage of the cold-launch system is in its safety: should a missile engine malfunction during launch, the cold-launch system can eject the missile thereby reducing or eliminating the threat. For this reason, Russian VLSs are often designed with a slant so that a malfunctioning missile will land in the water instead of on the ship's deck. As missile size grows, the benefits of ejection launching increase. Above a certain size, a missile booster cannot be safely ignited within the confines of a ship's hull."
:cool2:
Vertical launching system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Having seen platoon test launches previously some times before the picture of Brahmos launches seriously raises doubts as they do not seem similair.
I mean there is only a deep ocean in the background in that picture with the deep blueish sea color that is normally found only further away from the coast as usaully nearby coast the water is a bit muddy. Raises questions about platoon right?? especially when the scientist who usually call a platoon as it is are now saying launch platform.:namaste:

OR am i imagining things here??
