it was always 500, but to stupid treaty called MRTC, it had cap on its range. Now think it like we have hacked into its computer and extended its rangeHow would change/improvement in navigational systems result in an increased range?
I thought increase in range required changes in the motor/fuel/amount of fuel/weight etc!
Different rules for different class of people. Here goes the MTCR for a toss. When USA can extend the range of South Korean missile from 300-500, then the international treaty has become useless and Russians have smartly refer to this after this news mention in the thread below
http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/...orea-get-longer-range-ballistic-missiles.html
it was blessing in disguise as we have master so many tech, GSLV third stage is still challenge for our guys but it is matter of time, plus we are at present in much better position to absorb tech then in 1990s.Different rules for different class of people. Here goes the MTCR for a toss.
We have been really screwed because of it which has significantly delayed our cruise missile capability& space program development in cryogenic engines.
I bet now US is going to ignore this news. They are receiving lot of $$ from India & too many deals on the verge of finalization.
.India has tested the modified supersonic cruise anti-ship missile "Brahmos", the newspaper "Izvestia". Unlike the base case "BrahMos" guidance system is used in the Russian strategic missiles X-101 and X-555. Updated test rocket developed jointly by Russia and India, have been found to be successful.
The guidance system of the X-101 and X-555 to the "BrahMos" duplicates already installed on the missile inertial-Doppler, and the correction is now manufactured and GPS-GLONASS signal. Thanks to this revision could significantly improve the accuracy of a cruise missile. The source said the newspaper, as a result of completion "Brahmos" now surpasses class short-range missiles, but a few did not quite live up to the strategic class.

.At the core of the supersonic missile "Brahmos" is a Russian missile "Yakhont". Russian-Indian missile is capable of a speed exceeding the speed of sound at 2.5-2.8 times and hit targets at ranges of up to 500 kilometers (according to other sources - no more than 300 kilometers). It is widely used stealth technology. "BrahMos" is created in three main variants for land, sea or air.
By that reasoning, it should be possible for a nation to import all components of a long range missile separately and just assembling to build a long range missile. Since we do not see that happening, I believe that selling sub-systems which enable a system to achieve long range are also prohibited under MTCR.These are two different things..
1. Selling a full fledge system ranges beyound MTCR
2. Selling a sub system which enable a system to archive such range..
I believe that selling sub-systems which enable a system to achieve long range are also prohibited under MTCR.
Russia transferred propulsion tech already. Two manufacturing facilities have been setup in India for the engines.problem is that Russians did't share its engine tech with us, we have sufficent experience with solid engine of same nature, ofcourse we have very good look at engine and we can make long range engine, but we like our relation to continue, plus 1 mach long range missile is under development.
Both of these systems are missiles that have a range beyond 300km. It can be argued@Lethalforce
S-300 has nothing to do with MTCR. The Americans have exported the, even superior, SM-3 missiles for the Aegis BDM.
Before Brahmos we had literally Zero experience in RAMJET.
