Can the man and the tank be physically separated, and still provide the same control over the vehicle and its systems/guns etc? Not remote control, but locate the men outside the tank a few feet away, tethered to the tank, and control the tank from this perch?

Some out-of-the-box thinking...
Why would you out a tank crew out of tge tank when the tank is supposed to protect them through tank armor? Unless the vehicle thethered to thst tank is also a tank because the enemy will always try to knock out first the vehicle that contains the crew.

A more plausible solution is a semi-autonomous tank with AI. But you need a lot of bandwidth, satellites, backed up by INS and radio based guidance system if you want to operate these kind of tanks in maneuver warfare.

The US Army is now experimenting with robot tanks:

Nice design. But if the development period runs for 40 years again then that tank will be obsolete by the time it gets into service.

The powerpack is an interesting question since Western tanks are moving towards conventional engine-electric hybrid designs. Or at least future powerplants are designed to produce more electricity since tanks in the future will be more and more electronic (both for offensive and defensive systems), more automated and autonomous, and with emphasis on stealth (less heat snd noise generation on electric drive mode).

India should partner with Ukraine since Ukrsine has good industroal basecand experience as far as tank production is voncerned and they seem to move fast in their weapons developments.

I remember after a going through to a rant by some dalal's dog, I felt that DRDO made a basic mistake... of trying to make a decent tank.
I commented that they should have come up with a "4-man crew tank under 50ton" by slapping a bigger engine & turret on a T-55 base. Something like this;

...........................
FMBT is designed for extreme maneuverability. This is the reason why exceptional T/W ratio is required.
This 45ton/1500hp FMBT concept looks as if they came to that exact same conclusion too...

Just meet specifications, fuck everything else!

The unmanned turret clearly has minimal armour, maybe they'll add some Merkava like modules, a narrow strip of very thick armour (the value they can put on brochures)...

The hull is similar too. At the green it can have 1000mm LOS thickness, the rest gets fuckall.

But where are the specifications? IA and IAF takes a long time to come out with realistic specifications.

No. It'll meet all requirements (the usual, be below 50t & mobile as fuck)... But when APFSDS starts to fly, it'll be butchered en masse like the AMX-13 "matchboxes" did in '65.

it's design is similar to t 14 so it can have similar protection level . it is not final yet and army is also not fool to induct paper tanks.

Lol, you still keep believing that? We'll see!

T-14 isn't much better either.

Most of it is ~500mm thick at LOS... Only that hull is less likely to get hit (as per cold war statistics, noone knows shall happen in flat open plains with modern FCS).
And see the turret, it's even worse than Merkava type modules, when has the gunners sight on the face.

Some of it is true, some of it is bollocks...

It is right about mobility being only raw power, produced by a vintage design fuel-guzzling engine, but can't say about the "very poor performance in terms of rpm and torque"... Maybe true, maybe false.
Arjun's engine is like Ambassador engine compared to modern SUV. Hopefully soon a 1500/1800hp engine will be available.
But mobility wise it's fucking fast & had great acceleration... Range & efficiency is poor.

About armour, that analysis of Mark 1 is highly improbable. Yes the mantlet is too big & can't be more than 50cm, but...
Actually read this post I made only previous pages ahead; Comparison with Leopard2 won't work as Arjun is much larger & longer. The blowout panels have also been confirmed to work.

Mark 1A is however kind of a jugaad! The gunner's side clearly does not have any ERA st all. Hope it'll get fixed in the final redesigned Mark 2 turret. Side armour added is jugaad too.

Ammunition really isn't that great. But as of latest reports it can do 500mm+, which is not nearly enough but similar to the mango rounds of T-90S. We'll catch up.View attachment 42017But tanks note it's only target & it can fire HESH, thermobaric, penetration-cum-blast etc. (soon CLGM too.)

As I said earlier, it's the maturity of tech that was gained from Arjun. Its heat-hardened hardware, sensors & sights, FCS, IFF, NERA, Mobile Camouflage & Active Protection systems.

As of that guy, he may sound all analytical but his tone is a of he's roasting the Arjun... Which is never a sign of neutral point of view.
He used quite a bit of old data, from when Arjun was indeed kinda shitty & full of teething issues. During '90s rusky observer were very happy with how badly the Arjun performed. It's sights were malfunctioning & fun could hold an aim.

But times change, just compare the gun stabilisation now:
Can be done by anybody! Here, just compare the distance of between commander & top of gunner's sight.

Protection of Mark1 & Leopard 2A4 are same (about 800mm) due to the same reason Arjun is unnecessarily heavy... IT'S FREAKIN HUGE!
Even manufacturers do agree with Engine performance of Arjun. As per them unless they get numbers, they can't work on the engine part. Any other foreign vendor or engine would mean increased price and neither DRDO could go for indigenous attempt on engine part without numbers in hand.

On APFSDS round, couple of days back some one posted a RFI regarding that where the penetration level asked for was 500mm at 2000m. Now when user is asking for that level, there is no point arguing that the APFSDS of Arjun is inferior.
@ezsasa did you posted that RFI?

that RFI was for 125mm gun whereas for arjun it has already been developed and tested with same penetration.

Looks like DRDO wants its tank to look like Jordanian tank with falcon turret.
