Jaisalmer Military Station witnessed a historic moment on Wednesday, 16 Mar 2016, when General Dalbir Singh, Chief of the Army Staff, on behalf of the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, presented the ‘President’s Standards’ to 75 Armoured Regiment and 43 Armoured Regiment. Both the Regiments conducted a mounted parade on the indigenous Arjun tanks with clockwork precision and immaculate coordination in consonance with the highest traditions of the Indian Army. To commemorate this historic event, the Chief of Army Staff also released a “Special Cover”.

=====================

124 tanks have been introduced in service within 75 Armoured Regiment and 43 Armoured Regiment, Recently awared ‘President’s Standards' for their service to nation ..

I think you mean Arjun MK2 ..

I hope i am seeing the Arjun MBT from the days i started reading, but don't know when DRDO will able to produce this as MBT for India Army, One side DRDO missing the target, otherside army giving the requirement as per the fantasy movies of the recent days

Training gets what is not naturally archived ..

But how it is possible for loader to load rounds at such speed ?

Guys what about a version of the arjun such as this
IMHO
Something like this will only serve to increase the silhouette of the tank making it:-
  • More vulnerable
  • Capable of acquiring targets from a greater distance
The first one is undesirable. The second one is a capability that can (and is) easily fulfilled by having a network enabled armoured force. The targets are acquired by UAVs, AWACs, forward infantry and helicopters. This information is transferred to the tank which then engages the target by firing a missile from its main gun barrel.

Therefore, we already have such a capability without the added risk and mechanical complexity of the design in the photo.

When you think of a tank (or any weapons platform, for that matter), think of the matrix of combined arms it will be operating with. That way you will notice how tank, as a platform, has a very particular role to perform. If we start thinking of a tank as a stand-alone machine, that is supposed to do everything on its own, the resulting system will be unwieldy and expensive. A jack of all trades is a master of none. Any army of masters of different fields, is unstoppable.

Tank EX originally meant for upgrading T-72M1 in IA, In which CVRDE, Rosoboronexport, Polish firm and other few, For sake of competition reasons Russian didn't allowed DRDO / GOI to modifying existing chassis of T-72M1, Which resulted in importing new tank chassis from Russia, This automatically put off CVRDE Karna out of competition as it would result in buying a new MBT rather an upgrade of existing MBT in service ..

I am disclosing this particular picture from days of late 90s Probably when Indian personal from Indian government including part of Army and DRDO went to Israel with prototype of Arjun MK1, There they tested various component of Israeli technology for Arjun including revolver ammunition feeding system, FCS as well as self protection suit, In return we perhaps offered with Kanchan Armour technology ..

Indian official stayed in Israel for some months in secrecy and were issued with their uniform with ranks, before shipped back to India with Arjun prototype ..

===============

@sayareakd Sir, The information you said long back that an Isreali guy posted lot of information on old forum regarding Arjun in Israel were true, Indeed ..

Yes sir they impressed with kanchan, so much so that they offered to fund next generation kanchan.
Yeah almost all things were tested. Some say Markava was brought into India, to test in Indian conditions and to allow our guys to have a good look at that.

Arjun present MTU 838 Ka-501 diesel engine

The Bharat powerpack - set to replace the existing powerpacks of the Arjun Mk I and Mk II MBTs, as well as power the future MBT - is identified as a 2,200 kg unit powered by DHPP-A fuel.
This is intended to operate at altitudes of up to 16,400 ft and temperatures as low as -20° Celsius. This requirement is likely a reflection of the Indian Army's need to operate in mountainous areas, particularly when deployed along India's border with Pakistan.

Jindal Steel to make high nitrogen steel for DRDO

he Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Jindal Stainless (Hisar) Limited (JSHL) on Wednesday inked a licence deal for manufacturing High Nitrogen Steel for armour applications.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre and DRDO Chairman S. Christopher.

Calling the development of the specific kind of metal, an outstanding achievement, Bhamre said: "I am glad that DMRL (Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory) has given a very important and strategic material -- high nitrogen steel."

"I also congratulate the Jindal Stainless Steel for initiating to partner with the DRDO in their concerted efforts to optimise lab technique versus industry scale production," he added.

The DMRL is the lead DRDO laboratory for researching complex metals and materials required for modern sophisticated warfare weapons systems.

Speaking on the occasion, JSHL Vice Chairman Abhyuday Jindal said: "We are extremely pleased with this development and we believe HNS will immensely benefit the Indian Defence sector, going forward."

"The hard-work and perseverance of 10 years of JSHL with Ministry of Defence has culminated in a fantastic result for the country in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Make in India."

"It paves way for development of specific application of HNS in the context of the Army's ongoing and futuristic modernisation programmes," he said.

Informing on the status of the industralisation of the manufacturing of the HNS steel, Jindal said: "Jindal Steel has already optimised manufacturing process at industry level. We are at 'take-off' stage for further development and commercialisation of technology to product-specific applications."
